The predicted salary is between 26000 - 27000 £ per year.

To operate and maintain Moray Council’s harbours under the powers contained in the Grampian Regional Council (Harbours) Order Confirmation Act 1987.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a 24 hour port control service at Buckie Harbour.
  • Provide services to all vessels at commercial harbours.
  • Provide professional services of the Harbourmaster at leisure harbours.
  • Undertake maintenance activities at all harbours.
  • Undertake pilot boat operations and maintenance.
  • Act as Harbourmaster’s Official Deputy.
  • Crew the Council’s dredger as and when required.
  • Undertake pilotage activities.

The Individual

  • Experience of working on a vessel (fishing or merchant) or appropriate training with a recognised nautical trainer, such as Sea Cadets.
  • Willingness to crew pilot boat.
  • Standard grades or equivalent in English, Maths and a science.
  • Hold/be willing to gain RYA Advanced Powerboat with commercial endorsement or equivalent.
  • Hold/be willing to gain RYA First Aid or equivalent.
  • RYA SRC Certificate to control the operation of VHF and VHF DSC (Digital Selective Calling).
  • Must be able to pass Sea Survival.
  • Must be able to pass ENG1.
  • Hold/be willing to gain MCA Approved Engine competence (or equivalent).
  • Hold/be willing to gain competence in excavator operations.
  • A working knowledge of Word, Outlook, Internet Explorer and Excel.
  • Numeracy.
  • Problem solving.

You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the Service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car/van.

Ability to keep work areas clean and tidy, particularly maintaining a high level of hygiene in the fish market.

Effective communication and interaction with all harbour users and members of the public.

Ability to relate to and support others in the team.

Helpful to colleagues and customers.

Ability to accept direction/delegation.

Flexibility to meet the needs and demands of the service.

Must be able to work both onshore and afloat in demanding and potentially hazardous situations.

Starting Salary: £26,531 pro rata

Relief Post: £13.79 per hour
