We are working with a leading multi-disciplinary Civil Engineering and Building contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Civil Estimator to join their established estimating team in St Helens. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-regarded contractor with a strong pipeline of work across the North West, offering long-term progression and a clear path for career development.

The Role

  • Managing estimates across a range of civil engineering projects, from initial enquiry through to handover.
  • Preparing detailed tender estimates from first principles.
  • Reviewing and analysing project documentation to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Managing either individual tenders or a portfolio of projects.
  • Producing accurate cost plans using estimating software (e.g. Conquest or similar).
  • Conducting site visits to assess constraints, access, and logistics.
  • Liaising with and negotiating with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Leading pre-tender and tender adjudication meetings internally.
  • Attending client meetings throughout the tender process.
  • Supporting smooth handover to commercial and delivery teams.
  • Keeping up to date with market conditions, material pricing, and inflation.

About You

  • Proven experience as an Estimator within civil engineering.
  • Background across sectors such as highways, infrastructure, groundworks, or utilities.
  • Strong understanding of estimating from first principles.
  • Experience using estimating software.
  • Commercially aware with strong negotiation skills.
  • Able to manage multiple tenders and deadlines effectively.
