Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and proactive HGV Technician/Mechanic to join our team at our Leeds depot. Operating from our Vehicle Maintenance Unit (VMU), you will play a crucial role in ensuring the fleet remains roadworthy, compliant, and operational. This includes performing routine inspections, repairs, servicing, and MOT preparation to maintain service standards and fleet reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and repair company vehicles and trailers, ensuring they meet legal compliance and safety standards.
- Perform preventative maintenance, scheduled servicing, inspections, and MOT preparation.
- Monitor and resolve driver-reported defects, ensuring vehicles remain in a roadworthy condition.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and bodywork issues, replacing faulty components as necessary.
- Accurately record service and repair history in accordance with company policies and legal regulations.
- Ensure fleet vehicles are operational by following maintenance schedules, troubleshooting breakdowns, and managing inventory.
- Work closely with the Transport team to ensure fleet availability meets operational needs, while minimising downtime to reduce disruptions to daily activities
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Proven experience within a busy HGV or commercial vehicle workshop.
- Full UK driving licence (Category CE).
- Experience in tail lift, fridge, and bodywork repairs is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of HGV maintenance practices, health & safety regulations, and transport legislation.
- Ability to prioritise tasks, work efficiently under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- A confident negotiator with a proactive approach.
