We are seeking a professional, dedicated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our team at Moorview Referrals on a full‑time basis. Moorview Referrals is a busy, purpose‑built referral hospital located in beautiful Northumberland, within easy reach of the stunning coastline and the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne. Our modern facility is equipped to the highest standards, including four operating theatres (one with fluoroscopy), CT and MRI scanners, multiple ultrasound machines, and advanced endoscopy equipment. We are a large, supportive clinical team with expertise in many different areas, working together to deliver exceptional patient care across a wide range of disciplines. We offer referral services in orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, neurology, internal medicine, ECC, and cardiology, providing a varied and rewarding caseload. As an ISFM Gold Standard practice working towards zero pain certification, we are committed to continually raising standards in patient care.

This role will be mainly rotating through the surgical department including orthopaedics, soft tissue and neurology, and the kennel department, but may also include ECC and Medicine shifts as needed. IVC Evidensia is the UK and Europe’s leading veterinary care group, made up of over 900 practices and referral hospitals, united by a shared purpose of happier animals, happier owners. At IVC Evidensia, we believe careers should be built without limits. Our people are supported to make more clinical impact, access more career opportunities, and play an active role in their local and professional communities. Through investment in learning, innovation, and wellbeing, we create environments where our teams can grow in confidence, capability, and fulfilment at every stage of their career.

How You’ll Make a Difference

As a Registered Veterinary Nurse, you will be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering high‑quality nursing care to patients while supporting excellent client experiences. You’ll work collaboratively with veterinary surgeons and the wider practice team, taking responsibility for the nursing care of a range of first‑opinion cases, contributing to clinical standards, and supporting the ongoing development of patient care within the practice. You’ll work a flexible rota covering 40 hours between 8 am and 8 pm, with a choice of either 5 × 8‑hour shifts or 4 × 10‑hour shifts to suit your lifestyle. You’ll also join a 1:5 weekend rota (two 12‑hour shifts with TOIL), and take part in our bank holiday and Christmas cover, with occasional support across other departments when needed.

General responsibilities include:

  • Diagnostic imaging such as CT and radiography
  • Monitoring anaesthesia
  • Inpatient care including medicating, walking and monitoring of hospitalised patients
  • Discharging patients
  • Providing perioperative rehabilitation to patients
  • Preparing patients for theatre
  • Scrubbing into procedures where required

You Might Be a Great Fit If...

We’re looking for a confident and motivated Registered Veterinary Nurse who enjoys working as part of a team and delivering high standards of care. You’ll bring:

  • Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
  • Experience working in clinical practice, with growing confidence in medical and surgical nursing
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage workload effectively
  • A proactive approach to learning, reflection, and continuous improvement

This role is well‑suited to someone with experience in surgery, anaesthesia (including more complex cases), and out‑of‑hours work. While referral experience is not essential, it is highly desirable. With a wide range of clinical interests across the team, this is an excellent opportunity for anyone keen to develop their skills further – particularly in anaesthesia, analgesia, radiography, and advanced imaging.

At IVC Evidensia, we’re committed to supporting your ongoing development and wellbeing. When you join us, you’ll benefit from:

  • A varied and rewarding nursing role within a supportive primary care environment
  • Clear career pathways with progression opportunities into Senior Nurse, Referral, or leadership roles as well as clinical supervisors, mentors and certificate holders
