We are seeking a professional, dedicated Multidisciplinary Veterinary Nurse to join our team at Moorview Referrals on a full‑time basis.
About Moorview Referrals
Moorview Referrals is a busy, purpose‑built referral hospital located in beautiful Northumberland, within easy reach of the stunning coastline and the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne. Our modern facility is equipped to the highest standards, including four operating theatres (one with fluoroscopy), CT and MRI scanners, multiple ultrasound machines, and advanced endoscopy equipment. We are a large, supportive clinical team with expertise in many different areas, working together to deliver exceptional patient care across a wide range of disciplines. We offer referral services in orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, neurology, internal medicine, ECC, and cardiology, providing a varied and rewarding caseload. As an ISFM Gold Standard practice working towards zero pain certification, we are committed to continually raising standards in patient care.
This role will be mainly rotating through the surgical department including orthopaedics, soft tissue and neurology, and the kennel department, but may also include ECC and Medicine shifts as needed.
How You’ll Make a Difference
As a Multidisciplinary Veterinary Nurse, you will be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering high‑quality nursing care to patients while supporting excellent client experiences. You’ll deliver advanced nursing care to complex cases within a referral hospital environment, supporting patients, clients, and clinical teams across a range of disciplines. You’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to high standards of nursing care, supporting clinical decision‑making, and sharing your experience and knowledge with colleagues to continually improve patient outcomes and service delivery. You’ll work a flexible rota covering 40 hours between 8 am and 8 pm, with a choice of either 5 x 8‑hour shifts or 4 x 10‑hour shifts to suit your lifestyle. You’ll also join a 1:5 weekend rota (two 12‑hour shifts with TOIL), and take part in our bank holiday and Christmas cover, with occasional support across other departments when needed.
General Responsibilities
- Diagnostic imaging such as CT and radiography
- Monitoring anaesthesia
- Inpatient care including medicating, walking and monitoring of hospitalised patients
- Discharging patients
- Providing perioperative rehabilitation to patients
- Preparing patients for theatre
- Scrubbing into procedures where required
- Providing advanced nursing care to our hospitalised inpatients across a variety of disciplines
Qualifications and Experience
- Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
- Experience working in clinical practice, with growing confidence in medical and surgical nursing
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage workload effectively
- A proactive approach to learning, reflection, and continuous improvement
This role is well‑suited to someone with experience in surgery, anaesthesia (including more complex cases), and who is passionate about providing high standards of patient care. While referral experience would be advantageous, we welcome applications from RVNs of all experience levels and backgrounds as our knowledgeable and supportive team can provide full training in this role.
