An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a fast-growing UK solar business at a key stage of its development. This is not simply a site-based engineering role. We are looking for an experienced Solar Engineer who wants to take ownership, broaden their responsibilities and play a major role in developing the company’s growing Operations & Maintenance capability. For the right person, there is genuine scope to progress into a senior position and potentially take responsibility for the O&M function as the business continues to scale.
The Role
Working across a portfolio of commercial and industrial solar PV projects, you will support the performance, maintenance and ongoing development of operational assets. Your responsibilities will include:
- Planned and reactive maintenance across commercial solar PV systems
- Fault finding and diagnostics across AC and DC systems
- Inverter troubleshooting, configuration and replacement
- Performance monitoring and identification of underperforming assets
- System commissioning, testing and handover support
- Working across solar PV and battery storage installations
- Producing technical reports and recommending remedial actions
- Supporting site surveys and technical assessments
- Liaising with clients, manufacturers, subcontractors and internal teams
- Supervising and coordinating third-party contractors where required
- Ensuring works are completed safely and in line with relevant standards
- Supporting the development of O&M processes, procedures and best practice
- Helping shape the future engineering and maintenance capability of the business
What We’re Looking For
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience across commercial or industrial solar PV. You should ideally have:
- Strong hands-on experience with solar PV systems
- Experience within commercial or industrial solar
- Good AC/DC fault-finding capability
- Experience with inverter systems and monitoring platforms
- Knowledge of commissioning, maintenance and system performance
- Understanding of BS 7671 and UK electrical standards
- Experience working with clients, subcontractors and technical stakeholders
- A proactive approach to problem solving
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- A genuine desire to develop into a more senior position as the business grows
Experience with battery energy storage systems would be highly advantageous. Qualifications such as 18th Edition, Inspection & Testing, Solar PV or Electrical Engineering qualifications would also be beneficial. Candidates from both conventional electrical installation and broader solar engineering backgrounds will be considered where they can demonstrate strong practical competence and relevant industry experience.
Why Join?
This is a particularly exciting time to join the business. The company is growing quickly across the UK C&I solar market and is investing heavily in its engineering and operational capability. Rather than joining a large organisation where your responsibilities are narrowly defined, you will have the opportunity to:
- Have genuine influence over how the O&M function develops
- Work across a growing portfolio of commercial solar assets
- Gain broader exposure to PV, BESS, commissioning and asset performance
- Take on increasing levels of technical and operational responsibility
- Work closely with the senior leadership team
- Progress into a senior or leadership position as the team expands
- Build a long-term career within a high-growth renewable energy business
For someone ambitious who enjoys solving technical problems and wants the opportunity to eventually help build and lead an O&M function, this is an excellent opportunity.
