Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Hospital Optometrist based at the Liverpool Road health centre in Bedford. The role supports children and young people with eye and visual health needs in a paediatric community eye service. Our mission is to deliver world‑class eye health, sustainably and at scale.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide face‑to‑face and extended optometric care to paediatric patients.
- Perform clinical audit, shared‑care coordination and teaching to support the development of extended roles for optometrists.
- Collaborate with medical staff to deliver shared‑care for ophthalmic conditions.
- Lead and supervise junior staff in clinic settings.
- Contribute to clinical research, audit and publication of findings.
- Assist in the development of policies, procedures and training programmes for optometry services.
Person Specification
- Essential: GOC registration (BSc(Hons) Optometry or equivalent).
- Desirable: FCOptom, MSc or equivalent higher qualifications; experience of managing complex patients; knowledge of clinical governance. Independent prescribing qualification is a plus.
