Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Hospital Optometrist based at the Liverpool Road health centre in Bedford. The role supports children and young people with eye and visual health needs in a paediatric community eye service. Our mission is to deliver world‑class eye health, sustainably and at scale.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide face‑to‑face and extended optometric care to paediatric patients.
  • Perform clinical audit, shared‑care coordination and teaching to support the development of extended roles for optometrists.
  • Collaborate with medical staff to deliver shared‑care for ophthalmic conditions.
  • Lead and supervise junior staff in clinic settings.
  • Contribute to clinical research, audit and publication of findings.
  • Assist in the development of policies, procedures and training programmes for optometry services.

Person Specification

  • Essential: GOC registration (BSc(Hons) Optometry or equivalent).
  • Desirable: FCOptom, MSc or equivalent higher qualifications; experience of managing complex patients; knowledge of clinical governance. Independent prescribing qualification is a plus.
