Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Moorfields' Ophthalmic Vision Science (OVS) Practitioner team within the Medical Imaging and Ultrasound Department. The post holder will work at City Road and other sites as required, providing diagnostic imaging for services across Moorfields.
Responsibilities
- Provide diagnostic imaging services across Moorfields, including satellite clinics, private patients and other sites as required.
- Perform digital angiography and other imaging procedures, applying knowledge of fundus photography, digital angiography, autofluorescence imaging and optical coherence tomography.
- Make judgments and optimise images during Retinal Photography, OCT and Autofluorescence, overcoming challenges such as small pupils, eye movement, cataract or blinking.
- Maintain and troubleshoot imaging equipment, conduct routine calibration, participate in regular equipment testing and report malfunctions to EBME.
- Provide high‑quality images, train and supervise junior staff, and assist in departmental teaching and mandatory training sessions.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding imaging investigations and follow established SOPs, protocols and policies.
- Plan and prioritise workload to meet targets, review work for quality improvement, and support development of SOPs.

Qualifications & Experience
- Education / Qualifications – Degree or equivalent experience in photography or imaging sciences.
- Essential criteria – Minimum of 2 years ophthalmic imaging experience.
- Desirable criteria – Registered with the AHCS.
- Knowledge & Experience – Essential – Over two years’ experience of imaging; understanding of eye anatomy and pathology; experience of fluorescein angiography/ICG imaging.
- Knowledge & Experience – Desirable – Experience with devices such as Heidelberg, Topcon, Optos, Optovue and Zeiss.
- Skills & Abilities – Essential – Good communication skills with patients; capable of performing complex ophthalmic imaging without supervision; competent in IT skills.

Employment is subject to proof of eligibility to work in the UK, completion of a satisfactory DBS disclosure and two references. Visa sponsorship is not offered unless stated.
