Job Overview

Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology are seeking an experienced Retina specialist to join the internationally renowned MSc Ophthalmology Programme as Module Co‑Lead for the Retina module. This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant, post‑CCT Ophthalmologist, or equivalent clinician with expertise in Medical Retina, Vitreoretinal Surgery, Uveitis or related retinal subspecialties to play a key role in shaping the education of the next generation of ophthalmologists from across the UK and around the world. Expertise in Vitreoretinal Surgery or Uveitis is particularly welcomed.

Main duties of the job:

• Lead and coordinate teaching and assessment within the Retina module.
• Develop and enhance module content, ensuring it remains academically robust, up to date and clinically relevant.
• Deliver high-quality teaching across a range of educational settings, including classroom, online and practical learning environments.
• Support and mentor MSc students through personal tutoring and dissertation supervision.
• Contribute to assessment design, examination processes, marking and feedback.
• Work collaboratively with the Programme Leads, fellow Module Leads and the wider UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields faculty.
• Participate in quality assurance, curriculum development and educational innovation across the programme.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

This role offers a unique opportunity to influence postgraduate ophthalmic education within one of the world's leading ophthalmology training programmes, working alongside internationally recognised clinicians, researchers and educators. You will help develop future leaders in ophthalmology while contributing to the continued success and reputation of the MSc Ophthalmology Programme.

Applications are welcomed from Consultants, post‑CCT Ophthalmologists and those approaching CCT completion who have a passion for education and a commitment to excellence in ophthalmology training.

Person specification

Qualifications

• Current registration with appropriate professional body e.g. GMC
• To have sub‑specialist knowledge equivalent to a Consultant in Retina (post‑CCT or within 6 months of completing CCT)

Experience

• High degree of skill and experience in diagnosing and managing Retinal conditions
• Have experience in delivering ophthalmic education

Desirable criteria

• Have a PG Cert in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education / Fellowship of the HEA or equivalent (or be prepared to get it when in role)
• Have previous experience of delivering post‑graduate education

Skills

• Have an excellent understanding and experience in undertaking research in Ophthalmology
