Two locum consultant posts across the Moorfields Eye Unit at Ealing Hospital, St Ann's, and the City Road sites. Fixed‐term, less‐than‐full‐time bookings for 6 months beginning 1 June 2026.
The role is a locum consultant, requiring completion of FRCOphth / MRCOphth, GMC registration, and demonstrable Medical Retina training and experience.
Main Responsibilities- Provide high‐quality patient care, maintain GMC specialist registration, and ensure all required competencies.
- Attend all agreed clinical activities promptly and involve patients in decisions about their care.
- Work with medical, nursing, and managerial colleagues to support clinical efficiency, quality outcomes, financial management, and operational effectiveness.
- Support junior medical staff, ensuring compliance with working‐time regulations, managing leave, and providing adequate clinical cover.
- Participate in recruitment, job planning, appraisal, and revalidation processes.
- Review clinical outcomes, participate in audit, incident reporting, and implement resulting actions.
- Support patient involvement, apply NICE guidance, maintain up‐to‐date clinical protocols, and promote best practice, including infection control.
- Contribute to directorate business planning, represent the Trust at external meetings, and demonstrate strong leadership within clinical teams.
- Chair specialty meetings, resolve conflict, and adhere to departmental leave procedures.

- Essential: FRCOphth / MRCOphth or equivalent; CCT in Ophthalmology or within 6 months of CCT; Full GMC registration with licence to practise; Eligibility for GMC specialist register.
- Desirable: Higher degree (MD or PhD).
- Essential: Near completion or completion of Higher Specialist Training in Ophthalmology; recognised fellowship training in Medical Retina; excellent general ophthalmic experience.
- Desirable: Training in educational supervision as defined by the GMC; training in clinical supervision; awareness of current NHS and UK higher education issues.
- Essential: Audit and research skills; high clinical experience in Medical Retina; experience delivering and managing intravitreal therapies; track record of developing and submitting research funding applications; publications in peer‐reviewed journals; ability to lead and co‐ordinate clinical teams.
- Desirable: Ability to manage relationships with sponsors/funding bodies; ability to attract research funding; public and patient engagement experience; clinical leadership in developing new services; excellent teaching and presentation skills; management and innovation experience.
- Essential: Commitment to the role; excellent communication skills; ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams; good team‐building skills; commitment to high‐quality research.
- Eligibility to work in the UK; satisfactory DBS disclosure; two references.
