Job Overview: The NIHR Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London has recently been awarded funding from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to optimise the delivery of world class research in ophthalmology and science associated with vision and sight. The Facility forms part of the Moorfields NIHR Biomedical Research Centre for Ophthalmology, a joint initiative between Moorfields Eye Hospital and University College London Institute of Ophthalmology and is one of three London based Academic Health Science centres which together form the University College London Partners. The CRF is dedicated to the delivery of high quality clinical research, including experimental medicine and translational research studies, pioneering new therapies for the treatment of a range of ophthalmic disorders. It offers a clinical environment in which patients and researchers are supported by a team of specialist research support staff including ophthalmic research nurses, administrators and technicians.

Main duties of the job:

• Ensure effective data and data quality management, and reporting for studies undertaken within the Clinical Research Facility.
• The post holder will work as part of a team of data management/study coordination staff providing comprehensive data management and trial coordination support to the department.
• Responsibilities will include ensuring that clinical data required for CRF adopted trials are completed, validated and returned to study sponsors in an accurate and timely fashion, promoting high quality research, both within the Trust, nationally and internationally.
• The post holder will work as part of a team that provides the focal point for information requests and queries within the department.
• The post holder will ensure the clinical data collection, entry and transfer of information is of the highest standard and will be expected to be part of a team which develops the existing data storage systems and processes associated with them, as the needs of the service change.
• The post is part of a team of data and study coordination staff in the CRF and as such the post holder will be expected to work as part of this team, providing cover for other members of the team when necessary and working together to proactively improve data management within the department.

Education/Qualifications:

Essential criteria: Good grades in GCSE English, Science and Mathematics; GCE A-Levels (or equivalent).

Desirable criteria: Educated to degree level or equivalent training or experience; Formal IT training.

Skills/abilities:

Essential criteria: Comprehensive IT skills with experience in working with spreadsheets and databases; Good written and verbal communication skills.

Knowledge & Experience:

Essential criteria: Demonstrable success in working for a complex organisation (e.g. NHS or Academia); Familiarity with medical terminology.

Desirable criteria: Experience in handling large quantities of data; Familiar with research methodology and clinical audit.
