Adnexal Research Fellow post to start as soon as possible. The post consists of two dedicated sessions for Adnexal eye disease research. The successful candidate will also undertake additional weekly clinical sessions focused on general adnexal ophthalmology clinics.
Main duties of the job
- Continue the development of a specialised Adnexal service at Moorfields City Road and support it as a regional referral centre.
- Set up and deliver clinical trials, including familiarisation with thyroid eye disease assessments, patient identification and recruitment, trial delivery, and initiation of new studies.
- Participate in manuscript writing and research dissemination.
- Conduct general Adnexal Ophthalmology clinics to support patients with oculoplastic, orbital, and lacrimal problems.
- Provide continued care and follow‑up of Adnexal patients at Moorfields City Road.
- Supervise and teach junior staff in clinics and in teaching and training sessions.
- Handle administrative responsibilities related to teaching and training.
- Maintain GMC specialist registration and hold a licence to practice.
- Develop and maintain competencies required for the post and ensure prompt attendance at scheduled clinical activities.
- Ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and respond to their views.
- Work with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to achieve high performance in clinical efficiency, quality of outcomes, financial management and operational efficiency.
- Support junior doctors’ compliance with EWTD and New Deal, manage leave, and ensure adequate cover for clinical areas.
- Participate in recruitment of junior medical staff and in the annual appraisal and revalidation of doctors in training.
- Review clinical outcomes, participate in audit, incident reporting and analyse results to implement necessary actions.
- Collaborate with Patient and Public Involvement panels and ensure NICE requirements are implemented and monitored.
- Represent the Trust at appropriate clinical networks and external meetings.
- Demonstrate leadership, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, chair speciality meetings, and resolve conflicts.
- Maintain and update clinical guidelines, protocols and briefing on best practice in the speciality areas.

Education / Qualifications
- Essential: MBBS or equivalent medical qualification; Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice or eligibility for GMC Registration.
- Desirable: Experience in Adnexal ophthalmology; Ophthalmology research experience.
Skills & Abilities
- Essential: Teaching qualification and skills; Research interest.
- Desirable: Experience in Adnexal clinics; Completion of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) course within the last two years; Medical management of patients with Inflammatory Orbital Disease.
