Job Overview

The post holder will serve as the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Adults and the strategic safeguarding lead across Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, under the executive portfolio of the Chief Nurse. They will ensure the Trust meets its statutory obligations under the Children’s Act 2004, Care Act 2014, and other relevant legislation, delivering safe and effective services that protect vulnerable individuals. This role involves leading and coordinating safeguarding for both adults and children, promoting a unified “Think Family” approach. The post holder will manage the Safeguarding Team, oversee governance and assurance processes, and ensure robust safeguarding systems are in place across all Trust sites.

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Act as the Trust-wide strategic lead for safeguarding, ensuring compliance with the Children’s Act 2004, Care Act 2014, and other statutory guidance.
  • Provide expert leadership across adult and children safeguarding agendas, promoting a “Think Family” approach.

Operational

  • Manage the Safeguarding Team, including line management, supervision, and performance.
  • Chair safeguarding meetings and lead the Trust-wide Safeguarding Champions Model.

Clinical

  • Provide expert advice on complex safeguarding cases involving adults and children.
  • Hold lead responsibility for PREVENT and Mental Capacity Act (MCA) compliance.

Education & Training

  • Develop and deliver safeguarding training programmes, including Domestic Abuse and PREVENT.
  • Support safeguarding training needs analysis and monitor compliance.

Quality & Safety

  • Ensure safeguarding data quality and reporting to external agencies (e.g., NHSE, ICB).
  • Lead safeguarding reviews and ensure lessons learned are disseminated.

Inter‑agency Collaboration

  • Represent the Trust at local and national safeguarding boards and partnerships.
  • Liaise with external agencies including social care, police, education, and health providers.
  • Provide safeguarding input into multi‑agency safeguarding hubs and partnership boards.

Research & Development

  • Lead safeguarding audits and contribute to research and evidence‑based practice.
  • Support digitalisation of safeguarding documentation within electronic patient records.

Education / Qualifications

  • Level 4 safeguarding children and adult competencies
  • Postgraduate qualification in safeguarding
  • Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. ENB 998, Safeguarding Train the Trainers Course, PGCAE)

Experience

  • Extensive experience of leading safeguarding at a senior level; e.g., Named Professional
  • Experience of working and leading across the children young people agenda
  • Completion of Individual Management Reviews, Domestic Homicide Reviews and Safeguarding Reviews

Knowledge

  • Evidence of understanding of Information and Clinical Governance / risk management
  • Experience on leading complex teams
