Would you like to join the busy and highly skilled team of nurses in the Moorfields eye clinic and day care unit based at Ealing Hospital? We have an opportunity to recruit a dynamic Health Care Assistant Band 3 to work at our Ealing site.
Main Duties
- Carry out and assist with specific ophthalmic procedures and support the clinic and day‑care staff as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Be of reliable character, professional and able to take instruction from seniors.
- Be flexible, rotate within the division, assist nursing staff, support patients in clinic and the multidisciplinary team and work independently with minimal support.
- Support the clinical team in providing quality care to patients with a range of ophthalmic conditions while maintaining a safe and clean environment.
Responsibilities
- Support qualified nursing staff in providing high‑quality individualized care to a defined group of service users, relatives and carers.
- Ensure safety and well‑being of service users, always working to promote dignity and human rights through person‑centred care principles.
- Support qualified staff in assessment of health needs, planning, delivery and evaluation of care including clinical risk assessment.
- Exercise professional autonomy and make judgments and decisions to satisfy expectations and demands of the job.
- Undertake clinical work and related tasks as delegated by qualified nursing staff following appropriate training and assessment of competency.
- Liaise effectively with all stakeholders in the care process, including carers and relatives, to provide a seamless and integrated service to patients.
- Attain competencies by following the trust's required protocol.
- Act as a chaperone when required.

- Maintain and update relevant knowledge and skills, maintain a professional portfolio and participate in further training to enhance quality of care for patients and carers.
- Undertake clinical supervision in line with Trust Policy to develop competence and practice.
Communication
- Communicate effectively and in a timely manner within the team.
- Understand and maintain patient confidentiality.
Education & Professional Development
- Develop within the framework of a personal development plan agreed with your manager.
- Participate in training to achieve competencies required to undertake the role under the supervision of a trained nurse.
Compliance and Governance
- Maintain clear and legible patient records in accordance with the Trust and professional standards.
- Support a positive culture and environment for staff and patients in conjunction with the ward manager and senior multidisciplinary team members.
- Encourage service users to provide feedback on quality of service and lead user‑focused quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- 5 GCSE or equivalent.
Experience
- Demonstrate safe use and experience working with technical equipment.
- Evidence of working in the ophthalmic department.
- Previous experience in the NHS or ophthalmic setting.
- Basic NHS knowledge and/or ophthalmic technical skills.
Knowledge
- Computer skills – Patient Administration System (PAS), Open Eyes, ICAMS, Electronic Procurement, Electronic Reporting System.
