Job Overview
Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for the post of Clinical Scientist based in the Electrophysiology Department at City Road. The post begins in September 2021 on a full‑time basis. The successful candidate will perform diagnostic testing on adult and paediatric patients, analyse and document results, and contribute to both clinical care and research within a busy department.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct diagnostic screening on adult and paediatric patients using a range of electrophysiological and psychophysical techniques.
- Analyse and document test results accurately.
- Report findings within the clinical context and liaise with referring clinicians.
- Engage in quality assurance, control and standard operating procedures.
- Participate in department research, including data collection, analysis and manuscript preparation.
- Provide teaching and training to junior staff and other department members.
- Act as a mentor and serve as a referee for scientific papers and theses.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Post‑graduate degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
- HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist.
- Minimum 3 years clinical experience in visual electrophysiology testing.
- Extensive experience in testing adult and paediatric visual pathways.
- Good communication skills, manual dexterity and computer literacy (spreadsheet, database, word processing).
Desirable:
- Advanced knowledge of visual disorders and ophthalmic imaging.
- Organisational abilities, advanced keyboard skills.
- Experience teaching and training staff.
Skills and Personal Qualities
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Manual dexterity and good presentation skills.
- Empathy towards patients and ability to negotiate with senior managers.
- High levels of competence and willingness to train others.
