In this role you will lead the delivery of safe, effective care to patients and carers, ensuring a high quality, evidence‑based, patient‑centred experience.
Responsibilities
- Ensure high quality, evidence‑based patient‑centred care is delivered and provide assurance of this while delivering the Trust’s core objectives and strategies.
- Set standards with nursing team and foster an environment that supports safe and effective care.
- Develop and deliver continuous improvement initiatives to meet all quality indicators, KPIs and safety standards.
- Review and implement patient pathway management to improve flow and efficiency, ensuring a positive patient experience.
- Develop an understanding of the potential role of a Cataract Nurse Practitioner.
- Manage patient pathways pre‑procedure and post‑procedure for YAG laser capsulotomy, including consenting and training to undertake the procedure.
- Practice autonomously with a high level of accountability at an advanced clinical level, making critical clinical decisions.
- Work with the Nurse Consultant, ACPs and Medical team to manage a caseload of patients in nurse‑led review clinics.
- Use a range of assessment methods (history taking, holistic assessment, risk factor identification, mental health assessment, etc.) to establish diagnosis and monitor disease progression of ophthalmic conditions.
- Collaborate with the multi‑professional team to assess, manage and monitor patients’ health needs.
Qualifications and Person Specification
Education / Qualification
- Registered Nurse
- PG Cert Clinical Ophthalmic Practice or Equivalent
- Management qualification / experience
- 3 years experience as Band 6
Desirable qualifications
- Leadership course
- MSc or working towards MSc level qualification
Skills & Abilities – Essential
- Cataract experience
- Biometry / A scan experience or range of ophthalmic skill set
- Evidence of sound clinical reasoning and decision making skills
Skills & Abilities – Desirable
- Experience with managing the Eroster
- Experience or budgetary skills
Knowledge – Essential
- Up to date knowledge of ophthalmic clinical conditions and management
- Experience in staff management
