Corneal Clinical Fellow – Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, London (12‑month fixed term). Applicants must be registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and hold a UK licence to practice. They should possess an FRCOphth, MRCOphth or equivalent ophthalmic qualification, be at Specialist Trainee grade or equivalent, and be near to or have completed higher specialist training in Ophthalmology. Candidates are required to have performed at least 250 phacoemulsification cataract surgeries with audit evidence of results and must be able to operate independently without supervision. Successful applicants will gain experience in a world‑renowned teaching hospital, with access to teaching and clinical resources at Moorfields City Road and other divisions. The role will offer opportunities to present widely and develop management experience for future career progression.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead specialist and sub‑specialist corneal and external eye disease clinics.
- Participate in corneal and cataract operating lists.
- Manage urgent cases presented at any time during the week.
- On‑call for anterior segment emergencies (approximately 1 out of 9 weeks) and general on‑call at St George's Hospital.
- Provide leadership within the corneal multi‑disciplinary team.
- Teach and supervise junior medical staff and allied health professionals.
- Engage in formal and informal teaching activities.
- Undertake research and audit projects.
Person Specification – Education
- MBBS or equivalent.
- GMC Registration with UK licence to practise.
- MRCOphth or relevant ophthalmic qualification.
