This role offers training and development within Ophthalmic Imaging as a part of the Ophthalmic Vision Science Practitioner pathway. You will be trained to work within Ophthalmic Imaging, a specialised form of medical photography dedicated to recording and treating disorders of the eye.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, manage patient flow and ensure an excellent experience during appointments, treating patients with dignity and respect at all times.
  • Undertake a range of routine ophthalmic imaging procedures on medical devices and support qualified staff in the assessment of health needs and delivery of care, including clinical risk assessment.
  • Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care.
  • Follow a structured training programme and explore career routes within the organisation.

Main responsibilities and duties

  • Participate in the delivery of patient-centered care with compassion and professionalism.
  • Support senior staff in providing a caring and safe environment.
  • Demonstrate competence in generic and specialist skills following training within twelve months of commencement.
  • Assess patient needs, assist in clinical care, and support handovers and documentation.
  • Maintain patient flow, provide clear explanations and ensure accessibility for patients with visual impairment or other needs.
  • Operate within safeguarding guidelines and report any concerns.

Professionalism and Communication

  • Maintain knowledge and comply with trust policies, standards and dress code.
  • Communicate clearly with patients, relatives and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and information governance compliance.
  • Participate in safety huddles and handovers with effective communication.

Safety, Quality and Education

  • Contribute to clinical audits and continuous improvement of care quality and safety.
  • Complete mandatory training and maintain compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Engage in education and learning development and support induction of new staff.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education/Qualifications โ€“ Essential: Maths and English GCSE (or equivalent).
  • Desirable: willingness to complete level 2 healthcare apprenticeship.
  • Experience โ€“ Essential: ability to work in a team.
  • Desirable: NHS/private healthcare experience; customer service/front-facing experience.
  • Knowledge โ€“ Essential: understanding of equal opportunities.
  • Desirable: providing good care.
  • Skills/Abilities โ€“ Essential: good written and verbal communication; ability to use Microsoft packages.
  • Desirable: strong customer skills.
