Job Overview
The post of Assistant Divisional Manager is a key position within the trust’s senior management structure. Reporting to the Divisional Manager, the Assistant Divisional Manager is responsible for providing operational and strategic management support to the Divisional Manager, Head of Nursing and Divisional Director to assist them in the development and modernisation of Moorfields’ services.
Main duties of the job
- Be accountable for the delivery of services provided by the Division within available resources.
- Actively promote and develop new ways of working: continually review services and work with colleagues to redesign services to meet patient needs and enable the Division to achieve objectives.
- Identify and address service pressures, using own judgement to respond and deal with a range of routine and urgent situations and developments.
- Monitor Division activity levels, ensuring that activity, income and NHS plan targets are achieved.
- Lead and participate in ad hoc project work as required.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
People Management
- Directly line‑manage senior administrator(s) within the Division.
- Monitor key workforce indicators (sickness absence, turnover etc.) that affect productivity.
- Promote a high‑performance culture by holding people to account within the Division.
- Undertake individual performance appraisals for directly line‑managed staff within the Division.
Finance and Service Delivery
- Accountable to the Divisional Manager for the management of delegated budgets.
- Accountable for the delivery of services within the agreed budgets.
- Responsible for the implementation of specific cost improvement programmes (CIPs) for the Division.
Risk management, patient involvement & clinical governance
- Responsible for governance for the implementation & maintenance of the clinical and corporate governance framework for the Division.
- Support the Divisional Manager in the co‑ordination of effective methods for determining patient/carer views on services provided.
- Monitor incidents and risks within the areas of responsibility.
GENERAL DUTIES
- To comply at all times with the requirements of the Health & Safety regulations.
- To comply at all times with the Trusts Information Governance Policy.
- To ensure compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures of the trust.
Person specification
Education / Qualifications
- Essential: Graduate level qualification or equivalent experience.
- Desirable: Postgraduate management qualification eg. MA, Pg Dip, NHS Management Training Scheme.
Experience
- Essential: Previous proven operational management experience in the NHS or similar environment.
- Desirable: Demonstrable record of achieving change in a health care setting.
Due to the nature of this position, employment is subject to proof of eligibility to work in the UK, completion of a satisfactory DBS disclosure and two references.
