For over 200 years, Moorfields has been at the forefront of ophthalmic care, research, and education with a team of more than 2,300 dedicated members and over 700,000 patients seen annually across our City Road site and 22 networked sites. We are a global centre of excellence committed to kindness, equity, and the mission of delivering world‑class eye health at scale. From 2027, we will expand to a new Oriel site in St Pancras, Camden – a state‑of‑the‑art centre that will unite eye care, research, and education under one roof.

This post does not qualify for a skilled worker visa, therefore we cannot offer sponsorship.

MAIN DUTIES
  • Provide professional, comprehensive and efficient reception and administrative support to the Accident & Emergency, Urgent Care and General Ophthalmology (Primary Care) services.
  • Work on a rota basis with shifts from 07:30 to 22:00, Monday to Sunday.
  • Maintain high standards of data entry and quality across paper and electronic record‑keeping.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for patients in designated outpatient clinics.
  • Produce and review clinical IT data using systems such as PAS, safe–staffing and other relevant tools.
  • Coordinate cross‑cover and administrative support across other team members as required.
SKILLS / ABILITIES
  • Team‑working ability within a multidisciplinary service, maintaining an excellent working relationship with staff at all levels.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capacity to work independently and take responsibility for day‑to‑day workload.
  • Proficient in MS Office IT software packages (e.g., Excel, Word).
  • Knowledge of the Data Protection Act and relevant data protection principles.
EXPERIENCE
  • Administrative experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience in a busy, customer‑facing role within the health services sector.
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum GCSE level (including English and Maths to GCSE A‑C) or equivalent qualifications.
  • Evidence of ongoing education and development is desirable.
COMPLIANCE & REQUIREMENTS
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the UK, completion of a satisfactory DBS disclosure and two references is required.
