Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting an experienced Advanced Orthoptist to serve as Lead Clinical Tutor. This role blends advanced clinical practice with educational leadership, supporting undergraduate and MSc pre‑registration students during their placements across 26 weeks each year.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate undergraduate and postgraduate orthoptic clinical education.
- Develop and maintain student timetables, liaise with university tutors, and ensure high‑quality placement opportunities.
- Provide formative and summative feedback, supporting students’ confidence, clinical skills, and professional practice.
- Serve as a clinical supervisor, delivering teaching, coaching, and assessment to learners.
- Maintain a specialist orthoptic case load across a range of sub‑speciality clinics.
- Produce and update tutorial material and learning resources for clinical placements.
- Input and maintain accurate attendance records and placement databases.
- Advise new clinical supervisors and support their development.
- Promote a positive learning environment, acting as a role model and upholding confidentiality.
- Support Freedom to Speak Up procedures and ensure compliance with correct processes.
- Work autonomously, making decisions within an inter‑professional, multi‑disciplinary framework.

Qualifications
Education & Qualifications
- Professional Orthoptic qualification recognised by HCPC.
- Registration as an Orthoptist with HCPC.
- Completion of BIOS clinical tutor course.
Experience
- Extensive clinical experience in orthoptics, working in single‑handed clinics.
- Depth in diagnosis and management of complex ocular disorders.
- Experience supervising orthoptic students.
- Experience developing teaching resources for health‑care professionals and orthoptists.
- Desirable: experience providing formative and summative feedback to learners.
Knowledge
- Evidence of CPD and reflective practice.
- Desirable: experience of audit and/or research to improve learning.
Skills & Abilities
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.

- Employment subject to proof of eligibility to work in the UK, satisfactory DBS disclosure, and two references.
