Purpose of the Role
As an Assistant Manager, you will be responsible for a portfolio of clients in excess of £k. You will be delivering multiple assignments to agreed deadlines, reporting directly to Senior Managers, Directors, and Partners. You will have a particular focus on Non-Profit organisations, demonstrating the highest technical standards in these areas. Our Non-Profit clients include charities, schools, Oxford colleges, membership bodies, religious organisations, NHS charities, as well as commercial clients.
You will be a fantastic communicator, able to explain accounting concepts to clients, with the confidence and credibility to attend board and subcommittee meetings and participate in tender activity. You will need to immerse yourself in the sector and area, attending client premises, seminars, and occasional evening events. Moore Kingston Smith operates as one firm, and you will contribute to the overall growth and management of MKS. You will develop junior staff and support the Firm's values, acting as a role model for your team.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Role in audit team - Day-to-day contact with MKS team, clients, HMRC, and professional advisors.
- Manage all aspects of audit and accounts assignments, including planning, budgeting, time management, delegation, monitoring, review, and finalisation.
- Liaise with Tax Specialists if needed and ensure compliance with tax obligations.
- Use IT packages like ProAudit, CCH, Excel, Word, PowerPoint (knowledge useful but not essential).
- Promote the firm’s interests and motivate the team.
- Staff Management - Oversee and mentor trainees, support their development, and provide feedback.
- Assist with in-house training and learning.
- Provide constructive feedback to junior team members and upward feedback.
- Practice Development - Attend client events and seminars.
- Identify and develop new client opportunities.
- Assist in preparing and presenting new client pitches.
- Administration - Suggest improvements to systems.
- Manage billing procedures and assist with debt collection.
Skills and Experience
- Qualified ACA, ACCA, or equivalent.
- 1-2 years PQE with experience managing a portfolio.
- Experience in Non-Profit audit.
- Knowledge of Corporate Tax and VAT.
- Familiarity with UK auditing and accounting standards.
- Experience with ProAudit and CCH is a plus but not essential.
- Excellent technical, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
