Our Corporate and Business Tax team are now looking for a Corporate Tax Manager to join its exciting and growing department. The right candidate will work alongside both the senior management team and partners, to provide bespoke tax advice to clients, and also our team of in-house commercial and private client solicitors, to implement that advice.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • The role offers excellent opportunities to work on a broad range of tax advisory projects and clients to develop overall tax advisory skills.
  • Expect to spend around % of working time closely with partners and more junior members of the team to deliver tax advice to clients.
  • Full exposure to client-facing communication and working on projects from initial engagement through to legal implementation.
  • Play an important role in the development of peers and more junior colleagues on a day-to-day basis, both technically and professionally.
  • Manage the delivery of advice to the partner for approval, balancing work with junior resources and reviewing their output.
  • Prepare and deliver bespoke advice directly to partners.
  • Good exposure to working with partners on pitching for new clients both remotely and in person.

The firm’s clients consist largely of OMBs and large corporates, and advisory projects regularly consist of the following matters:

  • Structuring corporate transactions such as s. reconstructions, statutory demergers, and company share repurchases, advising clients on the availability of relevant reliefs.
  • Develop a good working knowledge of various taxes, considering the full scope of relevant taxation such as corporation tax, income tax, capital gains tax, VAT, and stamp duty/SDLT.
  • Prepare tax valuations and clearance letters for submission to HMRC in respect of transactions.
  • Manage full scope tax due diligence projects and liaise with other members of the wider tax team to deliver reports covering corporation tax, PAYE, and VAT.
  • Advise on employee share incentives such as EMI schemes and prepare relevant valuation reports for submission to HMRC.
  • Advise on qualifying conditions for certain tax reliefs such as EIS/SEIS and make advance assurance submissions on behalf of clients.
  • Deliver advice in the form of written reports, writing up technical tax analysis and applying it to clients' facts clearly and coherently, while reviewing work prepared by junior members of the team.

Although the role is predominantly advisory based, there will be a requirement to assist with compliance work that falls within the team, typically consisting of:

  • Reviewing the preparation of more complex corporation tax returns, often for groups, international or larger clients.
  • Supporting our General Practice through the review of some annual computations for audit clients and providing support for technical tax queries.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Client-focused with a solid knowledge base and experience of income tax self-assessment, PAYE, and Corporation Tax compliance procedures.
  • Understanding of accountancy principles and CTA qualified.

Skills and Experience:

  • Preferably ACA/ACCA and CTA/ATT qualified.
  • Extensive experience following qualifications.
  • Advanced Excel and Word skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A good team player.
  • Experience of mentoring and developing junior team members.
  • Enthusiastic and willing to learn.
  • Organised and motivated.
  • A driven person who takes ownership of tasks and drives to completion.
  • Ability to prioritise work and deliver to agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Ability to generate creative ideas for technical work and business development.
  • Ability to build personal rapport with clients and win their trust.
