Overview

OMB/Mixed Tax Manager role at Moore Kingston Smith, in City, London. The Corporate and Business Tax team are looking for an OMB/Mixed Tax Manager to join its growing department. The right candidate will work with the senior management team and partners to provide bespoke tax advice to clients, collaborating with general practice, private client tax, legal and financial planning to implement that advice.

Key Responsibilities

The role offers opportunities to work on a broad range of tax advisory projects and clients to develop the candidate’s overall tax advisory skills. The candidate will:

• Work closely with partners and more junior team members to deliver tax advice to the firm’s clients.
• Be exposed to client-facing communication and work on projects through all stages of a business life cycle.
• Play an important role in the development of peers and more junior colleagues, both technically and professionally.
• Manage the delivery of advice by balancing work with junior team members and reviewing their output, and by preparing and delivering bespoke advice to partners/directors.
• Have exposure to working with partners on pitching for new clients, both remotely and in person.
• Work with OMBs and family businesses, delivering holistic tax advice and coordinating with in-house specialists and/or client-appointed third parties.

Specific tasks may include:

• A working knowledge of taxes across corporation tax, income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, VAT and stamp duty/SDLT to inform advice.
• Assisting client restructurings (e.g., share-for-share reorganisations, share buy-backs) and ensuring work preserves desired tax outcomes, coordinating with in-house specialists or third parties as needed.
• Preparing tax valuations and clearance letters for HMRC submissions when required.
• Awareness of employee share incentives (e.g., EMI schemes, growth shares) and preparing relevant valuation reports for HMRC.
• Advising on qualifying conditions for tax reliefs such as EIS/SEIS and assisting with advance assurance submissions.
• Writing up technical tax analysis and applying it to client facts in a clear, coherent manner; reviewing junior work prior to delivery to partners.

Compliance support
Although predominantly advisory, the role includes assistive compliance work such as reviewing OMB corporation tax returns and supporting the General Practice with annual computations for audit clients and technical tax queries.

Ideal candidate should be client-focused with solid knowledge of income tax self-assessment, PAYE and Corporation Tax compliance procedures, and should understand accountancy principles and be CTA qualified.
