Our Private Client Tax department are looking for an Assistant Manager to join their exciting and growing team. We are looking for someone to actively manage the delivery of our private client offering. This will include dealing with the routine tax compliance and ad-hoc advisory work on your own client portfolio as well as overseeing and reviewing the work prepared by junior members of the team. This is a key role within the office, where you will be client facing and required to deal credibly and professionally with clients and other professional advisors. As such, excellent technical skills are crucial; equally crucial will be your ability to impart tax technical information to non-experts.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a Private Client portfolio, consisting of a mix of clients with varied sources of income e.g., earned and investment income.
- Responsible for mentoring junior team members including reviewing their work.
- Primary point of contact for clients.
- Dealing with partnerships and high net worth individuals.
- Dealing with a wide range of capital gains tax issues.
- Delivery of technical advisory work on the portfolio.
- Dealing with one off advisory and compliance assignments.
- Assisting at client meetings.
- Proposing and raising client bills and regularly reviewing WIP.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- ATT and/or CTA qualified, with strong technical expertise across UK personal and private client taxation.
- Solid experience in Self-Assessment, tax computations, report writing and ad hoc advisory work.
- Advising on complex matters including incorporations, EIS/VCT/SEIS investments, IHT planning and trusts.
- Good working knowledge of international tax principles, UK residence and domicile, and double tax relief.
- Experience handling HMRC enquiries, including settlements and penalty negotiations.
- Proven ability to advise a broad private client base including HNWIs, non-UK domiciled and non-resident clients, owner-managed businesses and property owners.
- Commercial mindset with experience agreeing fees, spotting opportunities and contributing to business development.
- Strong delivery, people management and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple matters and support junior team members.
