We are looking for an Employment Tax Senior Manager to join a growing department, working closely with the wider Tax and Legal teams. This person will deal with employment tax advice and complex compliance for a large portfolio of clients, supporting organisations across a broad range of industries. As part of a well‑established and highly regarded team, you will help clients navigate an evolving and increasingly complex regulatory landscape, balancing technical compliance with practical, commercially focused solutions.

The role sits within a wider, integrated Employer Services offering, meaning you will work closely with colleagues across payroll, HR, immigration and global mobility to deliver joined‑up advice across the full employee lifecycle. This is a key role within the Employment Tax and Global Mobility department, where you will be highly client‑facing and required to deal credibly and professionally with clients and other professional advisors. As such, excellent technical skills are crucial; equally important is your ability to translate complex tax legislation into clear, practical advice for non‑specialists.

You will also be required to lead a team of more junior staff, mentoring them to develop their professional skills and providing technical training where needed. The right candidate will work alongside partners to provide bespoke tax advice to clients, support our payroll specialists, and play an active role in managing client relationships, identifying opportunities and contributing to the continued growth of the team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advising on all aspects of employment tax including employment status, PAYE obligations, National Insurance contributions, temporary workplace relief etc.
  • Undertaking PAYE health checks and assisting clients with PAYE enquiries from HMRC.
  • Advising on completion of P11Ds, PAYE Settlement Agreements and Short Term Business Visitor reporting.
  • Dealing with overseas tax queries in conjunction with our international network.
  • Review of expatriate self-assessment tax returns and payroll computations.
  • Supervision of team’s work and answering their queries.
  • Dealing with queries from Partners and managers on a daily basis.
  • Providing technical support to the firm’s payroll bureau.
  • Understanding of monthly payroll processing.
  • Advising on taxation of employee share schemes including submission of in‑year notifications and end of year reporting to HMRC.
  • Assisting development of new business.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • CTA qualified with strong employment tax experience, including PAYE, benefits and compliance.
  • Broad technical knowledge across employment taxes, including expatriate/global mobility, share schemes and personal taxation.
  • Experience dealing with HMRC enquiries and reviews, with confidence managing interactions directly.
  • Good understanding of payroll processes, including monthly payroll operations.
  • Experience working with or advising nonprofit organisations is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical matters clearly to non‑specialists.
  • Organised, proactive and self‑motivated, with the ability to take ownership of work and drive it through to completion.
  • A collaborative team player, with experience supporting and working alongside colleagues at different levels.
