Our Corporate and Business Tax team are looking for an OMB/Mixed Tax Manager to join its exciting and growing department. The right candidate will work alongside both the senior management team and partners, to provide bespoke tax advice to clients, collaborating with our specialist service teams including general practice, private client tax, legal and financial planning to implement that advice.

Key Responsibilities

  • The role of a manager in our team offers excellent opportunities to work on a broad range of tax advisory projects and clients to develop the right candidate’s overall tax advisory skills.
  • The right candidate can expect to spend their time working closely with the partners and junior members of the team to deliver tax advice to the firm’s clients.
  • The candidate will get full exposure to client facing communication and work on projects throughout all stages of a business life cycle.
  • The candidate would also be expected to play an important role in the development of their peers and more junior colleagues on a day-to-day basis, both technically and professionally.
  • The candidate would be expected to manage the delivery of advice, balancing working with more junior team members and reviewing their output, as well as the preparation and delivery of bespoke advice direct to the partners/directors.
  • The candidate would also have good exposure to working with partners on pitching for new clients both remotely and in person.
  • The candidate will have experience in working with OMBs and family businesses, and will have an appetite for delivering the holistic tax advice that they require.
  • A good working knowledge of a variety of taxes such that consideration can be given in the advice to the full scope of relevant taxation such as corporation tax, income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, VAT and stamp duty/SDLT.
  • Assisting the client in reorganising their business structure such as a share for share reorganisation, share buy backs and advising clients on the availability of any relevant reliefs.
  • Preparing and delivering the initial advice, frequently working with in-house specialists and/or client appointed third parties to ensure that the work preserves the desired tax outcomes.
  • Preparing tax valuations and clearance letters for submission to HMRC in respect of such transactions.
  • Awareness of employee share incentives such as EMI schemes and growth shares and preparing the relevant valuation reports for submission to HMRC.
  • Advising on the qualifying conditions for certain tax reliefs such as EIS/SEIS and making advance assurance submissions on behalf of our clients.
  • Writing up technical tax analysis and applying this to the client’s facts in a clear and coherent manner, as well as reviewing work prepared by more junior members of the team and ensuring it is accurate prior to delivery to the partner.
  • Assisting with the compliance work that falls within the team, typically consisting of reviewing the preparation of OMB corporation tax returns in a holistic manner.
  • Supporting our General Practice through the review of some annual computations for their audit clients as well as working closely with them to provide support for technical tax queries that come out of their work and their clients.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Client focused with a solid knowledge base and experience of aspects of income tax self‑assessment, PAYE and Corporation Tax compliance procedures.
  • Understanding of accountancy principles and be CTA qualified.
  • Preferably ACA/ACCA and CTA/ATT qualified.
  • Extensive experience providing tax advisory services to owner‑managed businesses after attaining their qualifications.
  • Advanced excel and word skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A good team player with experience of mentoring and developing more junior team members.
  • Enthusiastic and willing to learn.
  • Organised and motivated.
  • A driven person who will take ownership of tasks and drive to completion.
  • Ability to prioritise work and deliver work to an agreed timescale and budget.
  • Ability to generate creative ideas both for technical work and business development purposes.
  • Ability to build personal rapport with clients and to win their trust.
