Formed via a merger in 2020, Moore Barlow is a leading law firm with an aim to be the best law firm to work for regionally. We are a career firm, providing access to high-quality work, long-term career opportunities and an environment built on the premise of being “human first” in everything we do. Put simply, we care as much about your career as you do.

We are featured in The Times’ Best Law Firms 2025 list, and consistently achieve recognition for the quality of our services in the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners, including specific recognition for our work in Employment Law. We are now 450 people, including 280 lawyers and 58 Partners, with offices across the South-East and London.

More about the Employment Team:

Our Employment Team in Surrey, led by David Ludlow (Partner), provides practical and commercially focused advice to both employers and senior executives across a wide range of industries. The team handles complex and high-profile employment matters including restructures, TUPE, discrimination, whistleblowing, and restrictive covenant disputes, as well as strategic HR advisory work.

Working collaboratively with the rest of the Employment Team and the wider Businesses & Organisations division, the Surrey-based team supports a diverse client base including SMEs, larger corporates (seeking City-quality advice without the City price tag), and high-net-worth individuals. Our lawyers are known for their pragmatic and human-first approach; combining technical expertise with a genuine interest in clients’ goals and challenges.

Day to day:

As a Solicitor, you will manage your own caseload of both contentious and non-contentious employment work, including advising on HR matters, settlement agreements, contracts and policies, and Employment Tribunal claims. You will also support the senior lawyers within the team on complex and high-value instructions, giving you exposure and technical development as you carve out your reputation as an expert in this area of law.

You will maintain and strengthen existing client relationships, as well as develop new ones, working closely with senior colleagues to deliver on the team’s strategic objectives. Our team regularly hosts seminars and workshops geared towards providing updates in legislation and training for HR and senior management professionals, and you will have the opportunity to play an active role in the delivery of these events.

This is an excellent opportunity for a talented employment lawyer to join a well-regarded and highly-respected team, with clear scope for progression and professional development.

What we look for:

  • A qualified Solicitor with proven experience advising and/or supporting on a wide range of both contentious and non-contentious employment matters for employer and employee clients.
  • While we do not use PQE as the sole measure of experience, we do expect this position will suit somebody with 2-5 PQE.
  • While this is a Solicitor-level position, we are also open to considering candidates whose background and experience may be better suited to the Associate level within our progression structure.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with clients.
  • A proactive and collaborative mindset, and an interest in contributing to business development and team growth.
  • Alignment with our human-first values; somebody who genuinely cares about their clients, colleagues, as well as delivering a first-class service.

If you have the required skills and experience and are keen to advance your career as part of our leading Employment Team, then we strongly encourage you to apply.

If you would like to learn more about this opportunity before applying, please contact Brandon Duchesne (Talent Acquisition Manager), for an informal conversation.
