Mooncolony is always on the hunt for the next best Concept Artist, Illustrator, Character Designer, and general talented 2D artists to join our team. We want people who will push the limits of creative excellence at our concept art and illustration studio, based in Cambridge, UK, but working with international talent and clients.

The Role

As a hands-on project artist, you’ll work closely with the Art Director to deliver world-class artwork on any given project. You’ll adapt to specific art styles provided by our clients and collaborate with your peers to achieve the best results. We might hire you on a project basis or if your skills are off the chart, we may invite you to join our core team. Either way, this is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a high-skilled and tight-knit team where you will get the chance to collaborate with some of the biggest studios in the entertainment industry. Skills & Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years industry experience (freelance or studio based)
  • Excellent 2D art skills and expertise in Photoshop
  • World-class visual creativity and passion for character design and illustration
  • Advanced understanding of value, lighting, colour and perspective
  • A perfect understanding of human anatomy, proportion, fashion and various cultures
  • Excellent narrative and illustrative skills. An affinity for storytelling is a must
  • Ability to take a design from an early concept to a fully rendered, high-quality finish
  • Ability to adapt to a wide range of artistic styles
  • Ability to work comfortably under pressure and hit deadlines
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks while focusing on priorities
  • Driven, self-motivated and have meticulous attention to detail
  • A team player who understands art direction and how to help enhance a team’s output
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Good to have but not necessary

  • Experience with 3D modelling and rendering (MODO, Blender, Z-Brush etc.)
  • Shipped video game titles

  • Examples of unique fantasy, sci-fi and modern day character designs, concepts
  • Examples of polished illustrations demonstrating world-class rendering skills
