Moog Military Aircraft Group is recruiting for a Degree Qualified Stress Engineer to join our Commercial Actuation team at our Wolverhampton facility. The ideal candidate should have at least five years’ experience in aerospace stress analysis of gearboxes, geared rotary actuators, power drive units, hydraulic manifolds and transmission shafts for high lift actuation or of Horizontal Stabiliser Trim Actuators. If your experience is not within the Aerospace industry, stress analysis experience of other complex mechanical components and assemblies will be considered.

Deliverables

  • Static and fatigue stress calculations, stress summaries and reports, and approval of component and assembly drawings.
  • Support to the development department may be required involving compilation or review of test specifications, defining loading cycles for tests, and reviewing test results.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Proven capability in stress analysis, ideally of high lift actuation components and assemblies.
  • Ability to prepare stress calculations and reports to a high standard.
  • Reviewer of test specifications and reports (QTP, QTR, ATP, etc.).
  • Able to manage priorities and multi‑task efficiently.
  • Contributes to knowledge sharing within the stress analysis group.
  • Provides assistance to other stress engineers when required.
  • Confident engaging peers, management and customers in stress related discussions.
  • Contributes technical knowledge to the engineering team in support of analysis methods, research activities and failure investigations.
  • Knowledge of static (Proof / Ultimate), fatigue and impulse testing is an advantage.
  • MRB / Non‑conformance experience will be an advantage.
  • Experience in hand calculations is essential.
  • Experience using Mathcad would be an advantage.
  • CAD (SolidWorks or Unigraphics NX) experience is desirable.
  • Experience of FEA is required; competence using ANSYS is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of aerospace materials, their mechanical, static and fatigue properties and the influence of manufacturing processes on the strength of components will be beneficial.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Proactive and driven – will make things happen.

Security Clearance

Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance is required and must be maintained for this role. Please note that in the event that clearance cannot be obtained, you may not be eligible for the role, and/or any offer of employment may be withdrawn on grounds of national security.
