The Senior Project Engineer – Aerospace Test Equipment is responsible for leading the design, development, integration, and delivery of complex test systems used in the validation and qualification of Moog’s products. This role provides technical leadership across multidisciplinary/multi-site teams and drives execution from concept through deployment, ensuring compliance with aerospace standards, cost, schedule, and performance objectives.
Project & Technical Leadership
- Lead end-to-end execution of test equipment projects, including requirements definition, design, build, integration, and acceptance.
- Develop and manage detailed project plans, schedules, budgets, and risk registers.
- Coordinate cross-functional & cross-site engineering teams (design, controls, software, instrumentation, manufacturing).
- Interface with customers, program managers, and stakeholders to ensure alignment and successful program outcomes.
System Design & Integration
- Define system-level requirements and develop test equipment architectures for validation of Moog’s aircraft components (e.g., servovalves, actuators, flight controls).
- Oversee design of:
- Data acquisition and instrumentation systems (DAQ)
- Control systems (PLC, real-time control)
- Mechanical fixtures and load frames
- Hydraulic, pneumatic, and thermal systems
- Ensure proper integration of hardware and software subsystems into fully functional test solutions.
Verification, Validation & Compliance
- Lead system verification and validation activities, including factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT).
- Ensure compliance with aerospace industry standards (e.g., AS9100, NADCAP, DO-160, MIL-STD as applicable).
- Develop & release test plans, procedures, and documentation for test equipment systems.
Procurement Management
- Manage procurement of full ‘make to print’ test equipment solutions, sub-assemblies, services and components to support Test Equipment development.
- Manage procurement of full ‘build to requirement’ test equipment solutions, sub-assemblies, services and components.
- Define and manage work packages with external suppliers from RFQ to acceptance.
- Provide the function of Contractor Coordinator including managing 3rd party work while at Moog.
Risk Management & Problem Solving
- Identify technical and program risks early and implement mitigation strategies.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for system issues and test anomalies.
- Drive continuous improvement in test system design, reliability, and efficiency.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a primary technical interface with internal and external customers.
- Present technical solutions, project status, and risk updates to leadership and clients.
- Support proposal development, cost estimation, and technical reviews.
Mentorship & Leadership
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of engineering best practices.
- Ability to lead cross-site execution teams.
- Promote a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and innovation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline.
- 8–15+ years of experience in aerospace, defense, or highly regulated industries.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex engineering projects for test systems or similar capital equipment.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Test system design and integration
- Instrumentation and data acquisition systems
- Control systems (PLC / LabVIEW / MATLAB / real-time platforms)
- Proven ability to manage cost, schedule, and technical performance simultaneously.
- Experience in the development of test equipment solutions for multi-axis, closed loop, servo-hydraulic and electromechanical Test Systems is an advantage.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with aerospace testing (ATP, qualification testing, environmental, or avionics test).
- Familiarity with standards such as AS9100, DO-160, MIL-STD, or FAA certification processes.
- PMP certification or equivalent project management experience.
- Experience in the use of MS Project.
- Earned Value Management experience.
