You will lead a multi-discipline engineering and projects team responsible for the design, development and qualification of Primary Flight Control and Actuation Systems for military platforms. This is a customer-facing role with accountability for technical integrity, programme cost, schedule and delivery across new product introductions (NPI) and legacy programmes. **Key responsibilities*** Lead and develop a multi-discipline engineering team to deliver actuation system design, development, verification and qualification.* Own technical leadership for Primary Flight Control and Actuation Systems across the Wolverhampton military portfolio.* Interface with internal and external senior stakeholders, including customers, to provide technical briefings, manage expectations and resolve issues.* Drive programme planning, resource allocation and schedule management.* Identify programme risks, develop and implement mitigation plans, and maintain programme health (cost, schedule, technical performance).* Ensure compliance with business processes.* Drive continuous improvement within the engineering team.* Mentor, develop and manage direct and indirect reports; build effective cross-functional relationships. **Required qualifications & skills*** Degree in Mechanical, Systems, Aerospace Engineering or related discipline.* Typically 10+ years of progressive engineering experience with at least 5 years leading projects (management of engineering teams highly desirable).* Experience in Leading and Managing direct and indirect reports desired.* Aerospace background strongly preferred; experience with actuation systems is advantageous.* Strong knowledge of product development lifecycle for integrated actuation systems (architecture, requirements, development, verification, qualification and certification).* Practical experience with Earned Value Management (EVMS), Lean/Continuous Improvement tools, and engineering procedures.* Demonstrable experience in resource planning, budgeting and delivering complex engineering programmes.* Excellent written and verbal communication and stakeholder engagement skills.* Proven problem-solving and decision-making ability.* Ability to approve MRB/ECN items (drawing/process/technical report sign-off) — relevant qualifications and experience required to obtain this.* Security clearance or ability to obtain clearance if required. **Personal attributes*** Strategic thinker who grasps the bigger picture while managing technical detail.* Collaborative leader who builds trust and strong working relationships.* Calm, decisive, and resilient under pressure.* You’ll work on technically interesting challenges in a trusting, collaborative culture that supports career development, work-life balance and competitive rewards.* If this sounds like you and you’re ready to lead a high-performing engineering team in a demanding but rewarding environment, we’d like to hear from you. **What We Offer*** Flexible benefits package and development opportunities to support career progression* 33 days annual leave (including bank holidays)* Private medical insurance, mental health support and financial advice* Generous life assurance and company pension contribution (from 6%)* Employee share options, free onsite parking, EV charging We review applications on an ongoing basis, and the job posting will be closed once a suitable candidate is selected.
