Skills and Competencies

  • 3+ years leading or managing software engineers, including coaching and career development, with the ability to lead through influence rather than formal authority
  • Strong backend or platform engineering background, still hands-on at the Tech Lead level, with the ability to be both highly technical and an effective people manager
  • Hands-on experience building AI/ML applications (RAG, agent frameworks, MCPs, skills, harnesses) and taking them to production or in platforming (LLM or MCP gateway, agentic runtime, auth, data retrieval, eval tooling)
  • Experience operating production distributed systems on AWS/Azure, with a strong grasp of reliability, observability, and incident response at scale
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build consensus and translate technical topics for engineers and executives alike
  • Strong sense of ownership and humility, with a thoughtful perspective on humans and AI agents working on the same team — including what humans should and should not delegate
  • Deep expertise in artificial intelligence, with a track record of implementing advanced AI solutions to drive strategic transformation and operational efficiency
  • Strong experience using AI tools to lead innovation initiatives
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing AI-related risks, ensuring ethical governance, and fostering a culture of responsible AI adoption across the organization

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • As a player-coach engineering leader in the Strategy and Innovation team, you will embed across high-priority projects, raise the technical bar across multiple squads, and develop engineers through credibility, influence, and hands-on delivery
  • Embed in a high-priority project for four to six months at a time, guiding architectural decisions across AI-powered services, agent frameworks, and the Agentic software development lifecycle
  • Coach and manage several engineers across squads, leading through influence and partnering with their product managers and tech leads
  • Stay hands-on by diving into codebases, shipping production-grade changes, reviewing code at a high bar, and running incidents when needed
  • Challenge technical decisions and help engineers think through complexity, shaping solutions rather than simply reviewing them
  • Invest in engineers' growth through one-on-ones, coaching, feedback, and career development conversations
  • Drive cross-team alignment and adoption of engineering best practices, including operational rigor and reliability standards
  • Build trust with stakeholders through clear communication, sharing progress, surfacing risks early, and bringing people along on technical direction

How to prepare for a job interview at Moody's

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Moody's uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
