Our Design team
We’re looking for a Chief of Staff to partner closely with our Chief Design Officer, to drive the impact that our talented Design team (Brand Design, Product Design, User Research) can have across the business, product, and brand.
Whilst having a Design background is highly desirable, you’ll at least need to understand Design, and recognise its powerful value for Monzo, with an eye for style and quality.
Your superpower will be in creating efficient processes, complex programme management, and crafting clear narratives through excellent communication, to align and elevate our Design efforts, partnering closely with peers in Marketing and Product.
You’ll play a pivotal role in propelling our international expansion efforts by empowering our Chief Design Officer, and the wider Design org, amplifying overall effectiveness, and helping us achieve our strategic company goals.
You’ll play a key role by…
Developing a system that creates (actionable) visibility of key work across our customer experience Making it easy for designers and researchers to share highlights of work, async and in person
- Working with peers in Marketing and Product to create a system for effective collaboration on key priorities
Operationalising ways to deliver our magical brand with high efficiency, consistency and quality across the business
- Improving our processes (or creating some) that enables designers to better work and think across squads and collectives, more focus on full customer lifecycle
- Champion the scaling and adoption of the Monzo Design System, elevating its practicality and value across teams
Developing our design disciplines (Brand Design, Product Design, User Research)
- Attracting world class talent
- Ensuring we develop in an inclusive and diverse manner
- Identifying gaps in our existing skill sets and how we could fill the gaps by developing people internally or hiring externally
- Level up our onboarding documentation, progression frameworks, and other material to help the team grow
- Set rituals and mechanisms for developing craft and community in the design org

- Strategy for clear and consistent comms within design disciplines, across the tech org, with company leadership, and with key external stakeholders

- You have strong experience in operationalising design processes to enhance efficiency, consistency, and quality, ideally in a rapidly evolving tech environment.
- You’re adept at developing systems for cross-functional visibility, enabling seamless asynchronous and in-person sharing of insights and highlights.
- Have a proven track record in developing and nurturing design disciplines such as Brand Design, Product Design, and User Research, with a core focus on delivering exceptional customer experiences.
- You can demonstrate success in attracting, retaining, and elevating diverse talent, building an inclusive community that thrives on creativity and innovation.
- Showcase a strategic vision for scaling design teams globally, including identifying and addressing skill gaps through internal development or strategic hiring.
- Are experienced in crafting clear and consistent communication strategies, ensuring alignment and engagement with internal and external stakeholders.

What’s In It For You
£89,300 – £120,000 share options.
This role will be predominantly based in our London office, but we\’re open some distributed working.
We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, and at times that suit you and your team.
£1,000 learning budget each year to use on books, training courses and conferences.
We will set you up to work from home; all employees are given Macbooks and for fully remote workers we will provide extra support for your work-from-home setup.
