Overview
As an Employee Relations Advisor at Monzo, you will provide specialist ER guidance across UK and EU locations, helping managers resolve complex people issues with fairness and practical business sense. You’ll support a global ER agenda, adapting advice to local laws and cultures, while building capability within the People Collective. The role blends policy design, stakeholder coaching, and data-driven problem solving to scale a thoughtful, compliant employee experience. Responsibilities
- Provide specialist ER guidance on complex and high‑risk matters to managers and People Partners across UK and EU locations
- Adapt ER advice to different jurisdictions, local laws, regulatory requirements and cultures
- Independently handle complex issues across performance, conduct, grievances, absence and change, even when the answer isn’t obvious
- Coach managers to own decisions while ensuring proper escalation and accountability
- Act as escalation point for more ambiguous cases and mentor less experienced ER colleagues
- Support employment disputes including ACAS Early Conciliation and Employment Tribunal claims, coordinating with Legal and external counsel
- Maintain case management standards with confidentiality and data quality, documenting ER matters accurately
- Use ER and People data to identify trends and provide actionable recommendations
- Contribute to designing and refining People policies, processes and ER frameworks across jurisdictions
- Design and deliver training and knowledge-sharing to build manager confidence in handling people matters
- Stay abreast of employment law and ER practice globally (notably Spain) and assess implications for Monzo
- Lead and contribute to ER and People Collective projects to simplify and strengthen our ER approach
Key requirements
- Experienced ER specialist with practical knowledge of employment law and ER best practice
- Experience supporting ACAS Early Conciliation and/or Employment Tribunal claims
- Experience in a global or multi‑jurisdictional ER environment
- Ability to challenge, influence and build trusted relationships with managers and senior stakeholders
- Enjoys coaching and developing others to build confidence and judgement
- Proactive, comfortable with ambiguity, and able to own problems and implement solutions
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Proficient using data to identify trends and drive improvements
- Committed to fair, respectful people experiences especially in difficult situations
- Willingness to seek specialist local advice when needed
- Desirable CIPD or related HR qualification
- Experience designing or implementing ER policies/frameworks
- Ability to work independently in a distributed, remote-friendly setup
