We are looking for an Accuracy Checking Dispenser who is genuinely driven, someone who takes ownership, holds themselves to a high standard, and cares deeply about what happens to patients at the end of that prescription. You will be a central, trusted part of our pharmacy operation at our Winnersh site — the person the team relies on to make sure every medicine that leaves our pharmacy is right.

As an Accuracy Checking Dispenser (ACD), you will be responsible for carrying out the final accuracy check on dispensed prescriptions before they are supplied to patients. You will act as an independent safeguard within the dispensing process, ensuring that medicines are assembled exactly as prescribed and in line with legal, operational and patient safety standards. Getting it right the first time is non‑negotiable. You will be trusted to exercise professional judgement, identify risks before they become incidents, and have the confidence to stop the process whenever something does not look right.

What will you be doing?

  • Carrying out the final accuracy check on dispensed medicines, confirming that the product supplied matches the prescription and accompanying documentation.
  • Verifying the right patient, right medicine, right strength, right formulation, right quantity and right directions, ensuring all labelling is accurate and appropriate.
  • Checking that medicines have been assembled in accordance with legal requirements, SOPs and company processes.
  • Identifying and escalating discrepancies, near misses and potential dispensing errors immediately, supporting a culture of openness and continuous improvement.
  • Maintaining clear, accurate and auditable records of all checks completed.
  • Exercising professional judgement and recognising when concerns fall outside your scope of practice, referring to the Responsible Pharmacist where appropriate.
  • Supporting the safe handling and checking of controlled drugs, unlicensed medicines and high‑risk medications, in accordance with relevant legislation and internal procedures.
  • Ensuring appropriate expiry date checks, batch number verification (where applicable), and packaging integrity checks are completed before supply.
  • Working closely with dispensers, pharmacists and the wider pharmacy team to resolve queries efficiently while maintaining independence during the final checking process.
  • Contributing to quality assurance initiatives, investigations and process improvements aimed at reducing dispensing errors and improving patient safety.
  • Supporting and mentoring colleagues, helping to embed a culture of accountability, quality and attention to detail.
  • Remaining up to date with SOPs, regulatory requirements and best practice guidance to maintain competence and ensure the highest standards of checking.

What do you need?

  • An accredited Accuracy Checking Dispenser (ACD) qualification recognised for pharmacy dispensing practice.
  • Significant experience working within a pharmacy environment with a proven track record of conducting final accuracy checks.
  • A detailed understanding of the dispensing process and the critical control points that prevent medication errors.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacy legislation, SOPs, governance requirements and patient safety principles.
  • The ability to work independently and make sound decisions while recognising the limits of your competence and escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to maintain concentration and accuracy, even when working at pace.
  • Confidence to challenge discrepancies and halt the supply process when patient safety could be compromised.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • A proactive mindset, taking ownership of issues and following them through to resolution.
  • A genuine commitment to patient outcomes — understanding that every prescription represents a person relying on you to get it right.

What we offer:

  • Full‑time contract: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with the option of overtime on Saturdays.
  • Generous Leave: 25 days holiday (rising to 27 after year one and 30 after year three + 8 bank holidays).
  • Pension Matching: Up to 5% employer matching contributions.
  • Private Healthcare Scheme.
  • Flexibility and Wellness: Work‑from‑home options, cycle‑to‑work scheme, and more.
  • Growth Opportunities: Collaborate across teams and represent Montu at events, with support to grow your skills and impact.
  • Enhanced Maternity & Paternity Leave.
