Montresor Legal, a global financial infrastructure organisation, is seeking a Senior Counsel to join its European regulatory legal team. This role provides senior legal advice on regulatory oversight applicable to a systemically important payment system in Europe and a recognised payment system in the UK. The position focuses on advising on complex oversight and supervisory frameworks and their impact across the business, working closely with regulatory compliance colleagues while retaining legal ownership. The role also supports a wider range of European regulatory matters, including critical infrastructure designation, settlement and treasury issues, and major technology transformation initiatives. It involves close collaboration with senior stakeholders across Technology, Finance, Risk, Product and Operations within a globally integrated legal function.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on European and UK payment system oversight regimes and their practical application across the business.
- Provide legal input on the regulatory impact of products, technology and operational change.
- Support engagement with supervisory authorities and regulatory reviews in partnership with Compliance.
- Monitor regulatory and policy developments and contribute to internal and external responses.
- Manage regulatory interactions and external advisers as required.
Candidate Profile
- Qualified European lawyer with relevant post‑qualification experience, ideally gained in‑house within a regulated financial services, payments or infrastructure environment, or within a regulatory authority.
- Strong understanding of payment systems, financial market infrastructure and prudential regulation.
- Clear, concise communicator with a pragmatic, commercially aware approach to regulatory advice.
- Comfortable operating in a complex, international organisation.
