Main purpose of the job:

To spray trailers in accordance with the Company’s standards. The task demands a right first time manner to maintain the Company’s high quality standards within a fast moving production environment. The role will involve the use of air assisted paint spraying systems.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Personally make health and safety a priority ensuring you comply with all health and safety instructions.
  • Plan work to minimise waste of raw materials as well as working in a clean and tidy manner.
  • Work in accordance with Company operating procedures and guidelines.
  • Wear and maintain personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Read and assess production information for required specification details, working in an organised manner to ensure the task is completed efficiently, to the correct standard and within the necessary time frame.
  • Conduct basic quality control checks.
  • Ensure all Company property issued for use at work is used within guidelines and maintained accordingly.
  • Ensure the safe operation of machinery within the area of responsibility.
  • Assist in other areas of production within capabilities and commensurate with level in the Company as and when required.
  • Adhere to the Company’s environmental policies and legal duties, specifically control of emissions, management of solvents and the recycling of waste product.
  • Prepare, including masking, and apply paint to a range of trailers to a high standard.
  • Communicate with the Senior Sprayer to ensure paint and consumable stocks are readily available as required.
  • Apply masking tape over parts and areas that are not to be coated.
  • Fills cavities and dents with putty to attain smooth surface.
  • Selects and mixes coating liquid to produce desired color, according to specifications, using paddle or mechanical mixer.
  • Pours coating liquid into spray container and connects gun to airhose, using wrenches.
  • Turns sprayer valves and nozzle to regulate width and pressure of spray according to knowledge of painting technique.
  • Direct spray onto work surface to apply prime or finish coat.
  • Coats areas inaccessible to hand sprayer, using brush.
  • Cleans spraying equipment and brushes with solvent.
  • Continually identify and suggest improvements to process, quality, waste management, visual management etc.
  • The above list is not an exhaustive list of duties and the postholder will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by their changing role and overall business objectives in the organisation.

Skills / Ability / Experience

  • Use tools and equipment used in paint spraying.
  • General knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of paint spraying.
  • Skill in the use and care of hand and power tools and equipment necessary to spray.
  • Ability to perform manual labour for extended periods of time as required by work assignments.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Good manual dexterity requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as hand tools.
  • Experience in the spraying of commercial vehicles is desirable.
