We are recruiting on behalf of a leading international bank looking for a meticulous and driven Financial Accountant to join their Finance department. This is a permanent role suited for a qualified professional with a strong background in financial control and a requirement for prior experience within the banking sector.

Reporting to the Financial Control Manager, you will be a key contributor to the bank’s reporting functions, ensuring accuracy across management accounts, regulatory submissions, and tax computations. You will also play an active role in strategic projects designed to streamline the bank’s financial systems. Candidates must be fully qualified and have prior banking experience.

Key Responsibilities of the Financial Accountant include:

  • Financial Reporting: Support the preparation of management accounting, Head Office reporting (including HKMA), and UK regulatory reporting for the PRA and BOE.
  • Balance Sheet Management: Oversee monthly balance sheet substantiation, ensuring all key movements are explained via MI and that reconciliations are completed timely.
  • Month-End Operations: Support the close process by preparing journal adjustments and coordinating GL account reconciliations.
  • Analytical Review: Conduct detailed reviews of the P&L and balance sheet to explain trends against budget and previous periods.
  • Tax & Forecasting: Assist with quarterly and annual tax computations (Corporation, VAT, and BBSI) and support the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
  • System Initiatives: Provide support for system upgrades, including the General Ledger, regulatory reporting systems, and P2P expense platforms.

Requirements for the successful Financial Accountant:

  • Qualifications: Fully qualified ACCA/CIMA/ACA accountant.
  • Experience: Essential background in banking with specific experience in management and financial reporting, planning, and budgeting.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced Excel and numeracy skills. Knowledge of Power BI is considered a distinct advantage.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Sound understanding of technical accounting and the reporting requirements for UK and international regulators.
  • Communication: Ability to present coherent ideas and information to supervisors and stakeholders while maintaining positive professional relationships.
