City of London – hybrid working, four days office to one day home

Candidates will ideally have strong middle office / fund operations experience within asset management, alongside a track record of leading and improving operational processes

Due to exciting business growth, a fantastic opportunity has arisen to lead and develop the middle office and operations function for an established specialist investment manager. Focused on alternative and sustainable strategies across public and private markets, the firm manages capital on behalf of institutional investors, wealth managers, financial advisers, family offices, charities and endowments, and continues to grow both its assets and its international footprint.

This is a hands-on role at the heart of the business. Reporting into senior management, you will take ownership of the day-to-day running of the middle office while driving the process, technology and automation improvements that will support the firm’s next phase of growth. You will manage relationships with third-party providers and mandate clients, and lead and develop a small team. Please note, this is a busy, fast-paced role, so we are seeking experienced candidates who are proactive and able to make an immediate impact.

Key Responsibilities of the Middle Office Manager to include:

  • Middle Office Delivery: lead the day-to-day function, covering trade support, corporate actions, proxy voting, broker onboarding, dealing restrictions, compliance monitoring, regulatory disclosures, Bloomberg administration, and portfolio and NAV oversight.
  • Fund & Mandate Onboarding: lead the operational onboarding of new funds and segregated mandates, coordinating legal documentation, DDQs, operational readiness, trading infrastructure and reporting requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement: identify opportunities to simplify, standardise and automate processes - including through workflow tooling and AI - to improve efficiency, scalability and operational control.
  • Service Provider Management: own relationships with key providers (ACDs, depositaries and custodians), ensuring service levels are met and coordinating due diligence, risk and compliance reviews, site visits and issue resolution.
  • Client Relationship Management: manage operational relationships with segregated mandate clients, covering reporting obligations, due diligence requests, governance meetings and ad-hoc queries.
  • Reporting: coordinate the production and delivery of investor, management and regulatory reporting, and support the distribution team on RFP and DDQ activity.
  • Data Integrity: safeguard the quality and consistency of operational and investment data across internal systems and external providers.
  • Change & Transformation: lead operational change initiatives, including system implementations, regulatory change and strategic business projects.
  • Team Leadership: lead, mentor and develop the middle office team, setting objectives, managing performance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Requirements for the successful Middle Office Manager:

  • Strong technical knowledge of the funds industry and middle office operations.
  • Relevant experience within asset management, fund operations or investment management.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with the confidence to influence and challenge senior stakeholders where appropriate.
  • A demonstrable track record of identifying and implementing operational process improvements.
  • A proactive, rigorous and well-organised approach, with the drive to add value for clients and colleagues alike.

Rewards for you:

  • Benefits: a competitive package plus hybrid working (four days in the City office, one from home).
  • The role: a visible, influential position with genuine ownership and the scope to shape how the function runs.
  • Culture: a collaborative environment that combines differentiated investment expertise with a strong service culture and a clear commitment to sustainability.
