A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Underwriter to join the Buy to Let mortgages department at a leading specialist Property Lending company based in the heart of London. You will be responsible for approving new mortgage applications within the Standard, Professional and portfolio Buy to Let product offering, and working to add value to the entire BTL process.
Duties of the Buy to Let Underwriter:
- Foster strong partnerships with the BTL Underwriting and Credit teams.
- Provide input and authorize credit decisions within delegated authority to promote responsible portfolio growth in alignment with Credit Policy.
- Assess and underwrite mortgage applications with higher risk profiles.
- Make lending decisions in accordance with the Credit Risk Policy, Responsible Lending Policy, and individual mandate limits.
- Act as an escalation point for team members, offering guidance, coaching, and training where necessary.
- Take a holistic approach to applications, considering overall customer needs and outcomes.
- Oversee new applications, correspondence, and pre-submission queries while meeting service level agreements.
- Proactively manage a pipeline of applications from submission through to completion.
- Collaborate with a pre-approved panel of Introducers to ensure swift, accurate, and consistent underwriting outcomes.
- Adhere to internal guidelines and regulatory frameworks, including FCA, PRA, AML, Financial Crime Prevention, and Data Protection standards.
- Take on project responsibilities and complete ad-hoc tasks as directed by management.
Requirements for the successful Buy to Let Underwriter:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience within underwriting and/or credit exposure within the BTL/Portfolio BTL market.
- Candidates will currently be holding a non-entry level lending mandate.
- Experience liaising with Introducers and external customers.
- CeMAP Qualified highly desirable.
- Understanding and experience of the regulatory environment.
