The company is a privately owned business, part of the Ballyvesey Holdings Group that has grown significantly in recent years, now providing a diverse range of Logistics Services throughout the United Kingdom, Ireland and Europe.

Due to recent growth, Montgomery Tank Services is currently seeking to recruit an Operations Manager to be based in Newtownabbey.

About the Role: This full-time role will involve being directly responsible for all aspects involved in the management and compliance of the fleet, driver agencies, other suppliers; and the organisation, planning and administration of the distribution and delivery system, ensuring opportunities are maximised and costs are controlled in the most efficient manner possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the Company always meets the requirements of the Operator Licence and that all external compliance issues are dealt with;
  • The day-to-day Management of all employees includes absence management, holiday cover, and all HR issues with assistance from the HR Department.
  • Involvement in the recruitment of HGV drivers and support personnel, including interviewing and ensuring all new employees are inducted and trained accordingly.
  • Responsible for the welfare and safety of all personnel, both office and operatives and for all Health and Safety implications within the depot.
  • Engage fully with all new technology being brought into the depot. Promote the use of modern technology where applicable to better achieve business objectives and improve on asset utilisation.
  • Assess and review your team, highlight skills shortages and/or training needs.
  • Maintain an up-to-date register of equipment support updates/bulletins and legislative changes that you can call upon and make available to the Supervisory Team should the need arise.
  • Management of fines and prohibitions levied against the Montgomery Tank Services fleet.
  • Reporting of and documentation of both road traffic accidents and personal injuries.
  • Conduct PPE Periodic Checks taking into account condition and availability of PPE equipment with individual and group safety being paramount.
  • Ensure all employees have the correct PPE for the task they are performing and that it is maintained correctly.
  • Ensure adequate First Aid provision for all sites.
  • Ensure general maintenance and upkeep of the site is compliant (e.g., PAT testing, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting & waste licenses).
  • Be an equal opportunities facilitator in the depot representing the best interests of the Company whilst safeguarding the individual employees’ rights.
  • Be an ambassador of Montgomery Tank Services and promote what it can do, what its employees can do and what you can do as a team leader in the business.

  • Promote and ensure that all operations are carried out with particular regard to health, safety and environmental controls.
  • Engage with the H&S function and ensure there are relevant Risk Assessments and SOPs for all procedures carried out within the Depot and assist with their implementation.
  • Flexible approach to work, where necessary transfer, or undertake other duties within competence and within reason, in order to meet fluctuations or priorities in work demands.
  • Be willing and be prepared to react to last minute tasks and react accordingly working with a can-do attitude encourage those you oversee daily to work to their full potential, whilst maintaining a high personal standard.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Transportation (National)
  • Strong UK Geographical knowledge
  • Familiarity with the commercial environment, multisite administration of large fleet operations.
  • ISO familiarity
  • H&S, HR at stage one and two, Investigation and disciplinary
