Overview
FY27: Paraeducator Level III, Special Education, 8hrs/10mos, Sherwood HS
Responsibilities
- Provide instructional and classroom support to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Assist with academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and physical needs; attend to student personal care and medical needs as required.
- Support students who display physical or verbal aggression; participate with students in learning activities as appropriate, which may include activities off school grounds.
- Facilitate student mastery of grade-level curriculum or Alternate Academic Achievement Standards.
- Support teachers and other staff in various classrooms and learning environments; perform related clerical tasks as needed.
- Collaborate with school staff to ensure continuity of instruction during a teacher's temporary absence.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of child development and instructional strategies aligned with assignment and school policies.
- Ability to implement instructional programs and monitor student behavior.
- Demonstrate patience and effective communication with students, families, and staff.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; read, write, and speak English.
- Ability to support students with special needs and to use standard computer tools (e.g., Google Workspace, MS Office, web-based instructional tools).
- Ability to learn and apply the seven core SSPGS competencies.
Education, Training, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; college coursework should include at least nine credit-hours related to education (e.g., behavior management, instructional strategies).
- One year of experience working with students in structured educational settings preferred.
- If no related coursework, two to four years of experience in structured settings with children/adolescents (e.g., daycare, preschool, after-school programs).
- Successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment with a qualifying score is preferred.
