Overview

FY27: Paraeducator Level III, Special Education, 8hrs/10mos, Sherwood HS

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional and classroom support to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Assist with academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and physical needs; attend to student personal care and medical needs as required.
• Support students who display physical or verbal aggression; participate with students in learning activities as appropriate, which may include activities off school grounds.
• Facilitate student mastery of grade-level curriculum or Alternate Academic Achievement Standards.
• Support teachers and other staff in various classrooms and learning environments; perform related clerical tasks as needed.
• Collaborate with school staff to ensure continuity of instruction during a teacher's temporary absence.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of child development and instructional strategies aligned with assignment and school policies.
• Ability to implement instructional programs and monitor student behavior.
• Demonstrate patience and effective communication with students, families, and staff.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; read, write, and speak English.
• Ability to support students with special needs and to use standard computer tools (e.g., Google Workspace, MS Office, web-based instructional tools).
• Ability to learn and apply the seven core SSPGS competencies.

Education, Training, and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; college coursework should include at least nine credit-hours related to education (e.g., behavior management, instructional strategies).
• One year of experience working with students in structured educational settings preferred.
• If no related coursework, two to four years of experience in structured settings with children/adolescents (e.g., daycare, preschool, after-school programs).
• Successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment with a qualifying score is preferred.
