• Job Summary

At the direction of the principal, this paraeducator performs a variety of tasks that promote student learning and well‑being to support students with Individualized Education Programs (IEP).

The paraeducator’s work is focused on facilitating the mastery of grade‑level curriculum or alternate academic achievement standards.

Students are in general education classes throughout the school day and may receive individualized or small group instruction.

The position also provides instructional and classroom‑management support, as well as clerical tasks to support teachers and other professional staff in all classroom or learning environments.

All new paraeducators are hired at a grade 13 and may be promoted to grade 14 upon successful completion of a six‑month probationary period and required training hours.

Paraeducators in this class support services such as Twice Exceptional, Learning & Academic Disabilities / Resource Services (HSM, HBS, LAD/RES).

• Physical and Special Requirements
• Frequent bending, walking, and lifting of objects/equipment up to 50 pounds may be required.
• External duties may be required; flexible scheduling and location changes accommodated.
• Must continue planned instructional activities during a teacher’s temporary absence.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and school policies.
• Ability to assist with implementation of the instructional program and monitor student behavior.
• Patient behavior and effective work with children, young adults, and staff.
• Follow written and verbal instructions; perform required tasks.
• Effective verbal and written communication in English.
• Support students with special needs.
• Knowledge of standard computer hardware and software (Google Workspace, MS Office, web‑based instructional tools).
• Ability to quickly learn the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Education, Training, and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; college coursework should include a minimum of nine credit‑hours related to education (behavior management, instructional strategies).
• One year of experience working with students in structured educational settings preferred.
• Experience working with children and adolescents in a structured setting if coursework lacking.
• Successful completion of the Para Pro Assessment with a qualifying score of 455 or higher.
