Job Specific Information: The Learning Center is a self-contained special education service provided to students with disabilities that require services outside of general education for core subject areas. Students are included in areas such as lunch, recess, and specials. Students in the Learning Center are diploma-bound, and they need differentiated approaches and scaffolding to achieve within grade-level standards. This position directly supports students in a 4th/5th grade combination class.

Summary Description: Under the direction of the school principal and special education supervisor, the special education teacher provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities and collaborates with general education teachers. Monitors and evaluates outcomes for students with disabilities. Assists in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP). Physical Demands: As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. Special Requirements: Attendance at school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement. Teachers in special education schools or service models must complete specific courses provided by MCPS, including behavioral management and nonviolent crisis interventions. Support for behavioral interventions is required.
