MCPS Official Job Description Summary:
Under direction, responsible for providing comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling services to students, focusing on academic achievement, career and educational decision-making, and personal/social development. Acts as a consultant to staff, parents, and the community. Physical demands vary by duties. Attendance at school meetings, programs, and activities outside instructional hours is required as per the MCEA agreement.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of MCPS Policies, Procedures, Guidance Program, and Program of Studies.
- Understanding of adolescent developmental stages.
- Ability to interpret written materials, work independently and as part of a team, and utilize technological tools.
- Excellent communication and human relations skills, capable of addressing groups of varying sizes.
Education, Training, and Experience:
- Master's degree in school guidance and counseling from an accredited institution.
- Experience as a teacher and/or counselor, meeting Maryland certification requirements.
