Role Overview: The Podcast Producer is a freelance role responsible for leading the editorial, technical, and creative development of Plugged In: the energy news podcast. This role manages the full production process – from planning and scripting to recording, editing, and publishing – while contributing strategically to Montel’s broader multimedia ambitions. The Podcast Producer will also act as Montel News’ lead video editor for two short‑form video strands on montelnews.com.
Key Responsibilities:
- Podcast Production and Editorial Leadership: Lead the end‑to‑end production of Plugged In, including concept development, planning, guest booking, scripting, recording, editing, and publishing. Uphold strong editorial standards, accuracy, and journalistic integrity across all episodes. Maintain a forward‑looking pipeline of episode ideas reflecting developments in European energy markets. Manage technical aspects of audio capture, including in‑studio and remote recording setups. Distribute episodes across all platforms and ensure timely, consistent publishing.
- Video Editing: Edit 60‑Second videos and Energy Insights. Work with journalists to refine scripting and storyboarding for short‑form video content. Handle colour correction, audio balancing, captioning, and graphics to maintain a professional finish. Optimise video output for various distribution channels.
- Social Media Promotion: Create short‑form audio and video snippets to promote Plugged In episodes and Montel’s short‑form videos. Monitor performance and adapt promotional approaches based on audience insights and platform trends.
- Cross‑Functional and Strategic Support: Collaborate with the Director of News and News team to strengthen Montel’s multimedia presence. Provide informal coaching to colleagues appearing on audio or video formats.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Production, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in podcast production, broadcast journalism, or multimedia editorial work.
- Strong audio editing skills (e.g., Adobe Audition, Audacity, Reaper).
- Experience in video editing using Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or equivalent tools.
- Strong news judgment, writing ability, and editorial instincts.
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills with a proactive, solutions‑focused approach.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of European energy markets or a demonstrated ability to learn complex subject matter quickly.
- Experience hosting or directing presenters in audio or video formats.
