Our products include analytics, prices, news, risk management, and marketplace services, all designed to empower our clients to navigate the complex energy landscape with confidence.

The Podcast Producer is a freelance role responsible for leading the editorial, technical, and creative development of Plugged In: the energy news podcast, shaping it into a standout audio product within the European energy sector. This role manages the full production process – from planning and scripting to recording, editing, and publishing – while contributing strategically to Montel’s broader multimedia ambitions. In addition, the Podcast Producer will act as Montel News’ lead video editor for two short‑form video strands on montelnews.com: the 60‑Second fast‑explainer format and the Energy Insights newsroom analysis format. This includes ensuring a consistent, high‑quality visual style that supports quick, authoritative storytelling. The role collaborates closely with reporters, editors, and external guests across platforms and supports Montel’s promotional strategy through the creation of compelling social snippets to grow audience reach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end‑to‑end production of Plugged In, including concept development, planning, guest booking, scripting, recording, editing, and publishing.
  • Uphold strong editorial standards, accuracy, and journalistic integrity across all episodes.
  • Maintain a forward‑looking pipeline of episode ideas reflecting developments in European energy markets.
  • Work closely with Montel’s reporters and editors to integrate core newsroom coverage into podcast content.
  • Manage technical aspects of audio capture, including in‑studio and remote recording setups.
  • Distribute episodes across all platforms and ensure timely, consistent publishing.
  • Collaborate with the Director of News to grow the podcast’s profile and strategic impact.

Video Editing

  • Edit 60‑Second videos – fast, clear, 1‑minute explainers designed for quick consumption.
  • Edit Energy Insights – short video analyses delivered by Montel reporters.
  • Work with journalists to refine scripting and storyboarding for short‑form video content.
  • Handle colour correction, audio balancing, captioning, and graphics to maintain a professional finish.
  • Optimise video output for the website, social media, newsletters, and other distribution channels.
  • Ensure all video content adheres to Montel’s editorial, visual, and brand standards.

Social Media Promotion

  • Create short‑form audio and video snippets to promote Plugged In episodes and Montel’s short‑form videos on LinkedIn and other platforms.
  • Work with Montel’s social and communications teams to tailor clips for maximum engagement.
  • Monitor performance and adapt promotional approaches based on audience insights and platform trends.

Cross‑Functional and Strategic Support

  • Collaborate with the Director of News, Front Page Editor, and News team to strengthen Montel’s multimedia presence.
  • Provide informal coaching to colleagues appearing on audio or video formats.
  • Contribute to Montel’s long‑term multimedia strategy, including new format development.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Production, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in podcast production, broadcast journalism, or multimedia editorial work.
  • Strong audio editing skills (e.g., Adobe Audition, Audacity, Reaper).
  • Experience in video editing using Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or equivalent tools.
  • Strong news judgment, writing ability, and editorial instincts.
  • Ability to manage multiple production cycles and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills with a proactive, solutions‑focused approach.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of European energy markets or a demonstrated ability to learn complex subject matter quickly.
  • Experience hosting or directing presenters in audio or video formats.
  • Familiarity with podcast audience growth strategies and digital video optimisation.
  • Proficiency with content management and podcast distribution systems.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret audience data to inform format development.
