Job Summary: Under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse, assists the professional staff by performing a variety of paraprofessional and technical functions which contribute to the safety, care and comfort of neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients and their families. Provides direct and indirect patient care, including technical skills and procedures, performs routine secretarial and clerical duties and participates in maintaining the environment.
Essential Functions:
- Provides patient care in a manner, which supports the patient's rights and dignity.
- Meets hygiene and grooming needs of patients.
- Assists in meeting the fluid and nutritional needs of patients.
- Participates in maintaining patient's skin integrity.
- Initiates measures to provide for patient and family comfort.
- Assists patients with elimination needs.
- Assists patient with pulmonary toilet.
- Provides and maintains a safe environment through preventive and intervention measures.
- Collects patient data through observation, measurement and data retrieval.
- Obtains specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Performs routine laboratory studies.
- Participates in the implementation of the treatment plan developed by the professional staff, patient and family.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families and staff.
- Participates in patient rounding and incorporates the principles of Montefiore at its Best.
- Ability to set priorities, problem solve, use proper judgment in difficult situations and assist in emergency situations.
- Provides transportation services, which support patient care activities.
- Performs activities to maintain a clean, safe and therapeutic environment.
- Is responsible and accountable for own actions.
- Participates actively as a member of the healthcare team.
- Participates in educational activities.
Qualifications:
- High School Required
- OHS Fit Test
- OHS Annual Assessment
- Patient Care Technician/Nursing Assistant Certification Required
- 12 Lead ECG, Phlebotomy, American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification Required
