We are supporting a large, mission-critical public-sector technology programme in hiring a DevOps Engineer to support and maintain a secure cloud platform used for national law enforcement applications. This role sits within a platform engineering environment, supporting cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, containerised services and operational tooling. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, support and delivery teams to ensure services are secure, reliable, scalable and production ready.

This role suits a hands-on DevOps Engineer with experience across AWS, Terraform, CI/CD, scripting, containerisation and operational support within secure or regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Build, maintain and support cloud platform services across a secure AWS environment
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
  • Write scripts and automation using tools such as Python, Bash and Ansible
  • Build, configure and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI and related tooling
  • Support developers with platform usage, deployment patterns and pipeline configuration
  • Work with Docker and Kubernetes to support containerised application deployments
  • Provide technical support for platform use, configuration issues and production readiness
  • Support routine monitoring, troubleshooting and service quality activities
  • Ensure platform services meet security, compliance and operational standards
  • Maintain technical documentation and contribute to peer reviews
  • Participate in occasional out-of-hours work and future on-call support where required
Requirements:
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a DevOps Engineer, Platform Engineer or similar
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud services
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform
  • Experience with Git, GitLab and CI/CD pipeline automation
  • Strong understanding of DevOps principles, automation and deployment practices
  • Scripting experience using tools such as Python, Bash or Ansible
  • Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes
  • Understanding of cloud security, compliance and infrastructure best practices
  • Experience troubleshooting platform, deployment and configuration issues
  • Strong communication, documentation and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with AWS Control Tower, Landing Zones, Account Factory for Terraform, Account Factory or AWS Landing Zone Accelerator
  • Experience with AWS Network Firewall, WAF, Suricata, Fortinet or forward/reverse proxy solutions
  • Experience with Ansible, Salt or Puppet
  • GitLab CI and Artifactory administration, ideally self-hosted
  • Exposure to AWS data services such as Glue, Athena, Lake Formation or QuickSight
  • Exposure to Entra ID or Microsoft Active Directory
  • Experience with GitLab Runners
  • Experience with AWS Grafana and Prometheus
  • Experience working in secure public-sector or regulated environments
  • Ability to work independently and lead technical discussions where required
